How much should I expect to pay to have these replaced in the front? I really don't want to do them myself.

i think alot? those take a while to change. why are they bad?? ball joints should be fine unless when you jack up the car you are able to wiggle the tire around. if its solid, bj are fine lol.

Wheel bearings making a whining noise, positive about it. As for ball joints, I'll hold off for now.

I have a 05 EX and I know just the bearings are expensive, if they are the same as yours. Somewhere upwards of 180 dollars canadian each if I remember correctly. I was also told to get only OEM bearings because for whatever reason they last a lot longer. I would assume if it's 180 just for the part a shop would charge around double just for one side?? 360 dollars roughly.

No way, 50 bucks per bearing. For less than 180, you could get a whole new OEM hub and bearing here in the states from majestic honda. ($50+$85) I did some research and all I have to do is take off the knucke assembly, take it to pepboys or some other shop and have them press the old bearings out and the new ones in. I think they have to press out the hub first though.

Assuming you were to change everything yourself, both sides, parts would run:

100 for 2 wheel bearings.
170 for 2 hubs (you shouldn't need this normally)
about 50 for 2 ***** joints. (might as well get that done if you're doing the wheel bearings.)
Then 40+ dollars to have a shop press out and in your stuff when you bring in the knuckle.

So all together the parts are 150 without hubs, and 320 with hubs and 40+ for shop labor.

Okay. I'm going to call the dealership and ask them why the quoted me so much on bearings. Also, I can't seem to find them on Majestic Honda. ??? Do you have a link?

51 dollars per bearing. But I don't know what EX model you have, so I recommend you start from the main page, click your model, then go to front brake just to make sure the numbers match. You might also want to consider buying 2 new rear hubs (they come with bearings integrated so you can install them yourself). And then there was the ball joints that you might want to take care of as well. But I don't know what you need. How many miles does your car have?

I did a great job jacking your thread lol. My car has 80, 000 miles on it. I'm just trying to keep it maintained. I commute a lot so I put major miles on it. I was going to do some maintenance next year to it. LCA bushings, front bearings, lower ball joints, front lower motor mount, and timing belt. I called the dealership to price some parts out and they were ridiculous. I wonder if Majestic delivers to Canada, I'm going to go look into this.

P.S. It's a 2005 EX coupe.

unless you actually have problems with it, I would wait until 100k+. I have 133k on mine and my ball joints are still good. Gearbox is right that we should wait until stuff breaks or is making noise before raising concern. Spend your money on stuff that is actually needed now. I'm still running my original 02 sensors and I don't plan on swapping them until they fail.

I agree 100% with that. I do need to replace the lower control arm bushings... so while I was at it, I wanted to check the bearings and replace the lower ball joint... because I'm already there and am using a friends shop who has the press... So I did not want to bother him again if something else failed. That is all. I think for the time being I'm going to leave it as is though Thanks Cleft.. and sorry for stealing your thread!

Bushings are a bitch. I replaced mine with energy suspension and I wish I had my old ones back, there was nothing wrong with them. The ES ones squeek especially on cold wet mornings. No huge deal, they do feel good, but if I had to do it again I wouldn't.

I thought the LCA was real easy to take off... it was the pressing that was a bitch. I don't intend to do the pressing, I have a friend that can do that for me I'm going to try the ES bushings any way... I don't mind a little squeak here and there. i know gbox swears by them

The LCA is cake if you know how to remove the ball joint. I found that a large prybar lworks better than that tool. The hard part is pressing em in like you said, and the grease. Oh you'll love the grease. Better have a can of mineral spirits handy.

But sometimes I can only focus on the negative. Aside from the squeeking in the morning, they are good. Squeeking goes away after you drive a bit. Get the black ones because they have graphite in them.

I've removed the ball joint a few times before... should be no problem... I used that special fork tool. It worked pretty good for me It's basically a special pry bar.
