buffing the headlights??

hey guys, i still dont have my car back.
money is a bit**. but since i havent had it,
i've been thinking about a million things i want to do.
someone told me i should buff out my headlights and make em look clean?
it is true. on the top of the headlights there is this clearish yellow substance,
and i would love to buff it out, or atleast make the headlights look better somehow.
whats the cheapest way that i can do this myself?

Re: buffing the headlights??

local parts stores should have a kit.....or just use a buffer and some rubbing compound with water

Re: buffing the headlights??

yeah don't get the little 10 dollar kit form the auto parts store. it does work a little bit, but you'll get the best results using sandpaper and an orbital with polish.

nothin like a ride with purty eyes...

Re: buffing the headlights??

no screw rubbing compound that takes forever the best thing to do by far is to buy a 3M headlight restoration kit it uses a 3 step sand paper process with a buffing pad and rubbing compound for buffing it also comes with a power drill attachment for every thing.the kit is 25 bucks at auto stores but i found it at wall-mart for 15. warning using this kit or any other process that requires rubbing compound will remove the thin layer of UV protection from the factory headlights that will cause them to yellow 10 times faster constant waxing is needed to prevent this from happening at least once a week or a plastic cover that has UV protection like lamin-x.

Re: buffing the headlights??

if headlights are yellow, its the uv layer that got destroyed already. so your uv layer is already dead and removing it is necessary. if you dont want them to yellow again, use wolfgang clear plastic sealer every few months.
