rat-damaged cables and wires
Hi!
Rats gnawed through the insulation of two (or possibly more) of the electrical cables and/or wires of my 2004 Honda Civic. As a result (if I'm not mistaken), the engine barely starts, idles extremely roughly, stalls out from an idle, and a little amber dashboard icon keeps flashing. Before rats attacked my little Civic, it ran perfectly.
I'm going to replace the cables that the rats damaged. Trouble is, I don't know which cables to buy. I dare not drive the Civic. I've attached several photographs of the damaged cables.
Photograph 916 gives you an overall view of one of the damaged wires. Photograph 918 gives you the close-up view. Note that the damaged wire is actually the one with black insulation--this wire is one of the wires in the thick cable with green or blue-green insulation. I know that this cable is a part of the upstream oxygen sensor.
Photograph 915 gives you an overall view of the other damaged cable. Photograph 919 gives you the close-up view of the damaged cable. You can easily see what looks like copper where the black insulation is missing.
Bye,
Mark

- What is causing the hard starting, the very rough idling, and the stalling (based upon what I've written)?
- Should I buy a whole new upstream oxygen sensor or should I fix the damaged wire (of my upstream oxygen sensor)?
- How should I repair my upstream oxygen sensor (if I should repair it)?
- If I should replace my upstream oxygen sensor, where can I get the most money for my old oxygen sensor (which is perfect, except for the damaged insulation of one wire)?
- What is the name of the damaged cable/part in Photographs 915 and 919?
- How should I repair the damage to the cable/part in Photographs 915 and 919?
- Regarding the oxygen sensor, would it be better to remove it while the engine is hot? Would it be better to install it while the engine is hot?
Bye,
Mark

Re: rat-damaged cables and wires
the wires still look intact. just make sure u have no open, short, or grounds. u can reinsulate the wires and or reconect them. then pull your negitive battery cable off and leave it for 10 mins. reconect and it should be good to go
