7th gen foglight problem - only 1 lights up
7th gen foglight problem - only 1 lights up
EDIT - Sorry, wrong section. Can someone move this? thank you!
Alright, I posted a thread a week ago about the 7th gen DIY here and it didn't work out for me (switch didn't work and other issues) so I followed this one:
http://www.clubcivic.com/board/showt...=169383&page=2
Everything connected just fine (switch lit up and turned on) but the left fog light (right if you're looking at my car from the front) will not turn on.
So, I ended up replacing the light bulb and both bulbs work on the right side.
The ground wire (black) is connected and the power (yellow) is connected to the endpoint of the fog light harness (which connects to the sub-harness). The
only thing I can think of (I'm a total noob at car mechanics/electrical - so
I'm waiting for my father) is the socket thing that the light bulb connects to?
Would there be any electrical stuff in the car that would prevent it from working? I'm assuming no because it's just a power cable.
Thanks guys for any help!

my guess is the connection. if only one lights up, i doubt its the relay or a fuse. You replaced the bulbs, and checked all the grounds... durn.
My suggestion is to cut your lights on then start wiggling all the connections, and taking them apart, then re attaching them. Just to to see if the light flickers or not.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm totally stumped. I checked all the connections and they *should work - the connection to the left fog light even has power (check using the tool where you connects it's ground and then touch an open wire. I took the left bulb out and even seen that it's getting current through it's connector.
The fog light harness has both wires connecting to one (which looks fine) and this connects to the subharness. So, I'm not sure where I should try next.

Should be the ground for that side. just make sure its connected down all the way and make sure its real tite. Not enough contact will cause it not to light up.
Re: 7th gen foglight problem - only 1 lights up
That's seems to be an option but it would be weird considering there is power going to it. Not only that but the sub harness (one internal wire) is then split into two (the fog light harness).... so I'm not sure why a relay would have anything to do with the "split" of power/current.
I'll look into it some more but thanks for your input.

Hanzo, you were right - it's a grounding issue.
All these hours lol.... wasted.
It seems as if the area to be grounded (as per all instructions) was painted over and no contact was made. That's it and that's all.
I feel dumb but thanks guys for your help.

Re: 7th gen foglight problem - only 1 lights up
If it's anything like my 6th gen fogs (and most would be), it's not the relay because that would cause both lights to shut off... a relay is basically a switch controlled by electricity, and it allows current to go through (to both lights, as you stated)... like everyone else, I can't imagine what it would be other than the connections. If power is going to it, I recommend rigging a connection for the bulb from the wires, and it should work (your dad or someone could probably help you out with that). Sorry I don't have any better ideas, and good luck!
