Screeching Problem, asuming the belts
Screeching Problem, asuming the belts
Hey everybody,
I don't like to do this, admit I've been defeated and waste everyone's time with my problems, but i need some help.
Ive been on line for a couple days now looking for possible solutions, ive tried to do everything suggested but nothing works, in fact it got worse.
My car is a 99 civic lx 5 speed with 107xxx miles
I recently changed all three belts as well as the waterpump and timing belt.
I did these things myself, im 18 and hope i didn't over look anything but possibly did.
The first thing i did was re adjust all my belts three to four times. I greased all points that needed it. I've tried tighter tension and loosening it up. Nothing. So i read up and found that it is possibly the starter's gear not retracting all the way and grinding lightly on the fly wheel, but when i checked the gear it was fine with no indication that it was grinding, besides the sound comes from the right side where the belts are located.
Next on line some said it could be the heat shield of the exhaust manifold, this didn't make sense to me because even if it was loose the sound would be a rattly not a grinding squeal, i checked it anyway and it seems fine.
I have looked at a couple forums and only see these solutions, but nothing really works. also the bearings on my tensionor also work well.and the bearings on the wheel of my power steering pump are fine as well.
If anyone can help me out on this one that would be great, thanks a lot.

Re: Screeching Problem, asuming the belts
yeah your right i don't think it is the tensioner. I haven't got the chance to check out the timing belt again, but i will take a look at it, its just a pain in the *** working with fwd cars, but u gotta love the tuning aspect of a 4 cylinder being able to kick some *** (real tuning not ricer tuning). Well this Saturday i may be able to get under the hood again, i was just wondering though if it is the timing belt why is this noise on and off?
