leaking oil from block found spot need advice

front left bumper collision pushed headlight under front frame, since then it has been re-bent as close to normal as possible, but I thought I was leaking oil and I was and I found what I believe to be the culprit.

Re: leaking oil from block found spot need advice

it was making small puddles after a recent oil change then stopped, and a couple mechanics have mentioned they think I am leaking oil, I looked closer at it, and noticed it sounds a little rough and it was leaking a little, I thought it was a cracked pan from the collision, my buddy kept pointing to this spot i pictured..... doesnt speak very good english... I think he was talking about the head gasket he said I should take the valve cover off and replace a seal (gasket)??/
welllll anyway to know for sure before i get dirty?

Re: leaking oil from block found spot need advice

after an oil change? it could just be the extra oil on the block from the change. The position of our oil filters make a mess when we change them. It could just have been that. The mechanics probably just wanted to make more money. if you really do have a leak i dont see it. good luck

Re: leaking oil from block found spot need advice

I'm not seeing anyone either, but if you're sure that it's coming out along the base of the valve cover, then a new VC gasket should fix that right up!

Re: leaking oil from block found spot need advice

is it dripping down on the ground? it could be coming from the drain bolt, if you forgot to put a washer or a washer thats too thin. or even the valve cover but it would be liquid oil not just dried black stuff.

Re: leaking oil from block found spot need advice

having some crusty oil is normal. there is always a lil seepage around the engine seals and valve cover. unless you have liquid oil dripping in good amounts, id say you are okay. use degreaser to clean what is there and see if it comes back.

Re: leaking oil from block found spot need advice

Yeah, that doesn't look like a steady leak that you should be worried about. Something like that can even be some spilled oil after an oil change that made it's way down there. Like gearbox said, clean it and see if it comes back.
