Exclamation Engine mounts failing

I drive a 93 Civic Lx.. its a auto, well ive had the car for quite a while and i can feel that the hood(engine and i think the muffler) and all vibrating, especially when im driving and im on the brake(red light).. it sometimes sounds like someone rattling a cage.. its gotten pretty bad.. i know my drivers side mount the one that u can see from the wheel is bad.. the rubber part has broken.. well short story shorter... took it to a shop.. $800 to replace all mounts and labor to put them in... i know its a ripoff so deff not going that route.. thinking of a cheaper route.. a friend of mine who works on my car from time to time tells me to just replace the inserts with ***athene inserts.. lol i forgot the name.. he told me i could just replace all the inserts and i should be good..

well the first question.. is he right? can we just replace the inserts.. bushings i think he said.. im very new to this subject.. mounts and yeah.. and it will be good? or would i still have to replace the mounts? or mount..

If i can just buy the inserts.. do you guys know where i can get them? and approximately a price to look at..

Thanks you guys!. in advance.. you know.

Re: Engine mounts failing

If they are like the ones on the 7th gens you cannot replace the inserts you have to replace the whole mounts.. They are about $100 each for the two sides and about $25 each for the front and the rear. I am in the process of doing mine on my 2004 civic since one of them broke and another is in suspicion. They are fairly easy to change just need to be careful and use a jack and a piece of wood underneath the oil pan.

Re: Engine mounts failing

just replace the mounts they are not that expensive the reason the shop is asking $800 is cause they half to pull the motor to replace the mounts you might be able to get inserts that go around the mounts but the mounts still have to be replaced If you are the die hard racer type you can fill the mounts with 3M window weld and make your mounts essentially solid mounts but your car will vibrate like ****

Re: Engine mounts failing

Honestly, motor mounts are very easy to do and if your buddy feels confident enough to do them, have him do it. as for the inserts, I've only heard of mounts being made that way, not so you could swap out inserts.

Re: Engine mounts failing

"These Inserts go in and around the rubber of your stock motor mounts," according to the auction. According to the information about the mounts you have already, these will only act as a band aid if anything at all. I would highly recommend the new mounts. You can buy them new or find a junkyard civic with the mounts. Plus the auction is only for 5 speeds anyways so they may not even fit.

Re: Engine mounts failing

the 3m window weld trick is were you pull out your motor mounts and you fill them with 3m window weld let them dry and now you basically have solid motor mounts the will not flex and can be a very harsh ride it will help you put power down to the ground though. I suggest this if you are tracking your car if it is a daily driver don't do it.
