depends from state to state. in CA, it is illegal to modify ur exhaust system. period.
i believe all states require at least a catalytic converter though.

its not so much that they are illegal just that the cops bust your ***** if they are loud as ****. as for passing inspection i dont know i have to pay for inspection because there are too many mods done to my car.. but i have a dc sport cat back and never once had a problem with it..but its also on the quieter side of aftermarket exhaust systems.....if you were to go get one of those fireball ones that you see on ebay they are really loud, that may cause a problem with the cops....hope this helps in some way

Ppl in the country dont have to pass emissions. I talked to one guy tonight who registered his car in the sticks so he didnt have to get tested- kind of a smart idea.
But anyways, washington isnt as strict as CA. You will want to check laws regarding it, but you probably have to have a cat. A highflow cat will give you about the same flow as catless exhaust, without all the fumes, pollution, and black bumpers.

move to CA, its just about the ONLY state that you can SNOWBOARD, go to the BEACH, and go mud off roading........all in the same day.
