white exhaust smoke

Hey im new to this forum but need help bad. I have a jdm d15b with 35000ish miles and greddy turbo kit. I recently blew my head gasket i believe. so i replaced it and the smoke is alot better not nearly as much at all. There is still a little but not till it starts warming up. I also replaced the pcv valve nothing has completely cleared it up. All help will be appreciated but i need it fixed!

Re: white exhaust smoke

did you check the head for warpage and proper compression when it was taken off? obviously coolant is still being burned. could try replacing the radiator cap as well.

Re: white exhaust smoke

Thanks for quick reply. no i didnt have those things checked and knew it could come back to bite me. Im getting all that done this weekend i decided to take it back off and have it checked and mill it if needed. What can a bad radiator cap do? Just curious.

Re: white exhaust smoke

you should almost always have the head resurfaced when you do a head gasket to ensure a proper seal. And a bad radiator cap can cause your coolant to boil faster due to a loss of pressure, it can also cause the coolant to not flow properly due to the loss of pressure, oh and it could spray down the engine bay with coolant as well

Re: white exhaust smoke

You'll also get white smoke with turbo coking right? Do you have a turbo timer and such? I donno. I had a smoke problem with one of my first cars, and it turned out that oil was leaking into the spark plug hole.

Re: white exhaust smoke

burning oil too... happened once while i had my Volvo...

also, whenever one of the mechs does an oil change on an RX-8, he always puts too much in, so he has to burn some off, fills the entire garage area with white smoke

Re: white exhaust smoke

im pretty sure it is bad turbo seal. I found oil in intercooler piping and there is feel-able shaft play. I took it for a drive and couldn't see any smoke but it also wouldn't boost. I could hear the turbo but wouldn't go past 0 boost This would cause smoke due to oil leaking into exhaust and then being burned?

Re: white exhaust smoke

bad seals or not, you should be able to build at least a little boost. make sure your turbo isn't shot and pushing boost pressure into the oiling system. that would be very bad for your whip

Re: white exhaust smoke

it does build boost i had a intercooler pipe loose. drives fine just little smoke. I did also find silver reflection in thye oil inside intercooler pipe. that means grinding bearings or fin against the housing? im getting a new turbo and see if that fixes it unless there is something else i should check first. Thanks a lot.

Re: white exhaust smoke

white smoke is not the cause of running rich. it means u have one of these:
-crack in head
-burning coolant/water
-bad seals

black is the cause of running rich or a blown turbo.
