Howdy everyone, im back lol, i have been lurking around for quite some time now, but i didn't really have the need to ask any questions. At least until now.
The end all be all retrofitting TYC's for HID. Ok Now here goes. Me and my buddy were planning on having a contest of who would have the best lighting setup also factoring in time/money/output. Sure enough he just felt like slapping in a H1 HID kit into his TYC's. Now he bought a 5000k HID kit and with a little shaving, he got them to fit into his TYC's He used < This DIY > Now his outbut was blue as i'll get out, but he had a blank area in the middle of the road
.... it looked like his lights just shot out to the corners of the car. From behind it looked amazing, from the approach it looked amazing, even his cutoff was pretty sharp
; the only downside was the fact that right in front of him the visibility was low... now he's shaving more, to alter the position of his HID bulbs. Cause when he wiggled them around the other night, they light would move more towards the center of the road... so yeah he's messing with it now.
Now my idea was the whole valeo retrofit that i heard so much about.
Ok... i searched online for Valeo D2S low beam projectors, and i cannot find any. Now i dont wanna go with the bosch d2s's cause i heard they require more work as to fitment. But the only valeo's i can find are H7 which from what i hear act just as well as D2S's but you have to buy a H7 to D2S adapter. Also i already had a awesome pair of ballasts at my place so i would have to buy a wiring adapter for them to work. Then last but not least the bulbs and also a wiring harness for the H7's. So for a parts list i was looking at this:
1. Pair of Valeo Projectors (cannot find d2s) I can get them for $60
2. The H7 to D2S adapter = $8
3. The OEM to D2S ballast adapter = $28
4. 5000k Phillips D2S bulbs = $55
5. H4 Headlight Wiring Harness = $45
6. Dirty Samurai's DIY
http://retrofit1.dirtysamurai.com/
Yeah its a long read but im trying to be thorough here, and not just jump in and hope everything i ordered is right, and hope that it all fits like my friend.
So can someone check the links that i posted and confirm that that's all i need???

EDIT: I also heard that not all valeos fit the TYC's. There are different generation TYC projectors that are used.... I believe i have the 1st gen with a slight blue cutoff, not a yellow cutoff

Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
yeah the H7 is much smaller and will be a whole lot easier to fit, with similar results. the halogen projectors have more light in front of the car and should be brighter than the d2s version.

Here are the ballasts i have
They are waterproof, and have a lifetime warranty. They are like 100 dollars shipped for a pair

Now there are 2 different versions, but do u know any place that sells the d2s version of the valeos??

Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
valeo d2s is not that great, very dim, and its hard to find. check ebay maybe, type in hid projector and search through the lists. or hidplanet.com forums. but imo its not worth it. valeo h7 has better front light on the road. d2s is too spread out and dim.

Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
But I heard the d2s's were made for hid applications... y would they be so crappy as compared to their halogen brothers (h7)?
Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
[QUOTE=LT2004ever;4338872]Nothing is wrong with the housing. Who said there was?? or are u saying due to the title retrofit, you are assuming i would be doing alot of custom fabrication for this project??
im just wondering why your putting in new projector housings

Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
he is swapping the poor tyc projector with a quality oem one. housing stays the same, only the projector is changed. valeo d2s is very spread out beam, lots of side light but its all very dim. h7 has more light in front of the car where you need it, and less side light. so it will be brighter in front of the car. valeo d2s is one of the worst hid projector. i had it before i know.

Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
I swapped in valeos in the TYC, best upgrade I could have done. Did the retro in about 3 hours. There was a thread in here about my whole HID in TYC experiments.

Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
i had valeo retro before and they are, to me, pretty crappy. imo, i see them as the poor man's, bottom of the bottom projectors. but hey if u like em great i just did not like em at all and how the beam pattern is layed out.

Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
I just bought it cause I didnt want to be bothered honestly. If you want the brights to work you are gonna have to wire those bulbs to the harness (they have leads coming off the harness for you to solder wire to. Now, invest 20 bucks in a butane soldering iron, you will love it.
but where did you buy your harness??What didn't you like about them???

Re: Yes another Retrofit Thread
Honestly if I had the choice I would have went bi xenon, BUT the larger projectors that I found would have required modification that I didnt feel like going through in a project that was supposed to last a couple hours. If you give yourself time though you can probably get it to work...

Like if u are saying they are crappy just cause there are better projectors out there, then that will go for anything.
