changing 2nd O2 sensor???

wtf i tried and failed lol. it looks like the sensor is recessed inside the cat and cannot be taken out. regular tools would not work, neither does the special sensor wrench with offset socket and opening for wire to fit through. Im stuck? lol

Re: changing 2nd O2 sensor???

If you are changing the sensor, just cut the wires off of it and use a deep socket in it.

Re: changing 2nd O2 sensor???

i believe the size is 22mm. what i did was I took a closed end 22mm wrench and dremeled a slot in it so you can get it over the wires. at this point i was able to get it on the sensor and take it out. I have a lot of spare wrenches laying around so i didnt care about cutting one. I dont recommend doing it to a good wrench though

Re: changing 2nd O2 sensor???

It must have rust/dirt settled in the threads. Use some bolt loosen/remover spray. Then use a breaker bar with the o2 sensor socket. It should come loose. The socket is big, and has a large slot on the side big enough for several wire sizes to fit through. I had to take off the heat shield first.

Re: changing 2nd O2 sensor???

but that special tool doesnt fit, its offset and hits the outer case of the cat where the wrench goes into it. the deep socket idea i see working, but yeah i would have to cut a slot in it for the wiring to put the new one on.

Re: changing 2nd O2 sensor???

I couldn't get mine out either gear and that was with the cat off the car. I ended up cutting it out because I didn't have the nifty socket. Well worth the money.

unbolt the heat shield surrounding the cat first. then try it. That shiny silver case comes off.

Re: changing 2nd O2 sensor???

done! it was a bit scary with an inch of overhead clearance lol and i almost got stuck under there, but it worked out and the socket was able to take it out with a cheater pipe. put the new one back and everythings fine. also did diy oil change while the car was up! more work than i thought but at least its only every 6 months.

Gear, you dont replace your oil (yourself) according to the mileage you drive?

Re: changing 2nd O2 sensor???

well 6 mo/6k miles usually is the longest i wait because of the filter. oil is still fine upto 10k with lc20. if i can, i prefer every 5 mo but i dont think extra month will matter much. and i usually drive 1k miles per month
