I'm current 18 years old, bored, living with parents and have abit of money to spend. I'm an apprentice electrician and I'm not a half bad mechanic. The trade is a little slow right now and I just graduated highschool so I'm thinking of taking a year to work elsewhere and gather up some cash.

To help pass the time, I wana' build a car. I'm thinking of getting an old Civic chassis and swapping it.

What would you say is a good swap to try out? I'm looking for car year/trim and engine. Obviously I'm gona' go b-series. I don't wana' spend that much at all. I live up in Canada and I'm hoping to get away with chassis and engine for about 1000-2000$, very possible.

What is the easiest b-swap engine/chassis combo you know of, that won't cost me a fortune but will still make for a pretty quick car.

probably a rex or ef w/ an ls vtec or b20 vtec head. both light cars and you can get those engine setups for cheap. my buddies rex with a b20vtec and type r tranny clocks low 13 range on the track. which is good enough to beat stock evos and stis by a few cars.

just my 2 cent! i should add.. if you didnt know a rex is a CRX.

i've seen EG shells go for $900. im pretty sure you can get stock mounts for the b-series for them as well. i'd go with an EG with a B18.

b20v is like 3 grand at least for the engine .. i say go for the b18 as well in a rex

complete b20s go for 1000 - tranny. gsr head is 400ish. type r tranny 1000. you got a poor man k20a for 2.5k

EG is a good platform too.

or you can just start out with an integra and call it a day

uhm you can order b20s from tigerjapanese for 500 shipped to your door, but i wouldn't even bother with a non-vtec b-series, or any b-series really. spend less or the same amount, boost a d-series, have way more fun.

i would much rather have my motor in an EG. personally i think they look better, lighter, more aftermarket support, wishbone suspension, etc.

b18 with a eg or ek. I like the style of the ek better but the eg is lighter. The ek might even be cheaper depending on your area. i know demand for eg's has gone up, since a lot of people use them as dragsters.

if you like to track and autox, i would suggest a dc2 or dc4. The integra chassis is better for the track.

hondas are legos for big kids. just go to honda-tech and check out the swap forums and FAQs on there, you won't find much on here.

^it's just technically illegal to put older series engines in our cars, so vendors don't even make a damn thing for swaps other than k series. you can certainly do it, but it'll be custom, expensive, and illegal :\
