Axle Stuck in Hub. Help?
Axle Stuck in Hub. Help?
One of my CV joints is shot so I bought myself a replacement half-shaft and am trying to replace it. I'm having some problems getting the axle out of the hub. Didn't come out with a hammer, so I went by my local auto parts store and borrowed a tool that's supposed to do the job. Between sitting on it for a few minutes with an impact wrench and going to town on it with a 4 foot cheater bar (and putting enough torque on it that I started worrying about stripping the tool), all I've managed to do with it is put a nice divot in the end of my old axle. Hasn't even budged. I've squirted a bunch of penetrating oil in there and I tried heating it up with the puller mounted. Couldn't get it red hot with the torch I have, but it didn't do any good, in any case. Anybody have a suggestion for something I haven't tried? I'm out of ideas here...

Re: Axle Stuck in Hub. Help?
sledge hammer that biotch. does the tool you are using bolt on to your wheel studs and you screw it through the center to push the axle out? that is supposed to do the job. if not just take a sledge hammer to it lol. thats what i did and it worked like a charm. 5 good hits and it was done lol.
