Question for all of your DIYers
I was curious what kind of toys or interests were all of you other experienced DIYers playing with when you were kids. Myself, i was into legos, erector sets, taking stuff apart, and in general...playing with electricity. I was never much into tv or action figures.
I am just curious where your education in fabrication came from.
I do know this is in the wrong section...but what better place is there to find the DIY people.

And but of course, loved working on my own things, like my bikes. I was always taking my dad's tools.

Re: Question for all of your DIYers
transformers, gi joes, legos, remote controlled stuff, tamiya cars, rockets, rubberband planes, building model cars/jets. FIREWORKS. and of course taking stuff apart even if it wasnt broken
Re: Question for all of your DIYers
i loved my bike and my RC cars. i started gettin into fkin around with things when i was really young. to the point that my dad put a lock on his toolbox because i was loosing all his tools :|
Re: Question for all of your DIYers
Seems like most of you DIY because you like it, I just do it because I'm poor! Which of course comes from my youth of fixing old busted stuff because I was poor.
Re: Question for all of your DIYers
Legos all the way. When I was 12 I made a little lego plane with working flight controls. I was a beast.
But I was real big into model airplanes before I got my license, too. Lots of designing and flying and playing around with new ideas. I had a workbench in my room at our last house.
I fix everything that breaks in my house, it just comes naturally to me.

Re: Question for all of your DIYers
looks like legos were a universal thing pretty much. I had a huge bin of legos...like a 10gal tub filled with legos. I was into building castles the most...oh yeah and pirate ships
Re: Question for all of your DIYers
Pirates ships and castles were def the coolest legos. Don't know how many times I built a castle, decided it could be better, and changed it around over and over.

Re: Question for all of your DIYers
I was all about the legos, and Lincoln Logs, anyone remember those? I also had this wood block set of pieces you could stack together, and then some of them had holes in them, and you dropped a marble in at the top, and then built it up so it slowly come down through all the pieces. In preschool we made cookies, and we made volcanoes and stuff, and I played a lot with this oil/water/sand thing that was pretty cool. At my elementary school we had what was called "the invention center" basically there was a bunch of household junk like milk cartons, cereal boxes, cans, cool plastic things, etc that parents donated and then they threw in a corner and we played with it during reading time- taping stuff together, gluing it, whatever we wanted... I also spent a lot of time drawing. Later on, I played with electricity/ circuits/ lightbulbs- I made all sorts of cool things- my favorite was this really strong cardboard cylinder (i think suran wrap came on it) and I had packed it with D cell batteries, cut out the side and mounted a switch, and converted the top to a flash light. On the side I added some cool red lights, and decorated it with paper tape... I was pretty inventive back then. I even made a ship at one point... but then I went to test it and it sunk, and I came back to class saying my ship doesnt work. Some girl told the teacher that I said "my **** doesnt work" and I had to reorganize all of the books on the bookshelf... that was ****ed up.
Re: Question for all of your DIYers
i guess legos...and def breaking a lot of **** that was missing peices or were well broken had to mod it back to life before my parents got home to see it broken
Re: Question for all of your DIYers
Yeah, pretty much anything I made with legos had a motor and at least two seperate gearboxes haha. Now in my engineering classes we get to play with the Mindstorm robotics kits... Where was that **** when I was 12.
Re: Question for all of your DIYers
i used to make these cool drag races cars with the plastic sticks from push pops, the part that pushed the icecream in push pops, rubber bands and pencils. made it so i could wind them up and watch them jump down the stairs. i was probably 7 or 8. I also did normal legos ,technic legos, and then mindstorms when i was like 15. I made a badass car with independent suspension and a rollcage that opened and closed then stuck the mindstorms brain and motors to it. was my pinnacle of lego creations. also built forts out of blankets and pillows. then i started on car stereos when i was 13 with my bro. tore my bike apart and painted it when i was like 10.
