Rep Power: 0 iPod in a 2005 Civic LX Sedan
So i just got a Civic Sedan an i want to be able to listen to my ipod in the car. I do not really want to replace the head unit. I dont want an FM Modulator. From my research i want something that plugs into the CD Changer port on the back of the radio. My question is what exactly do i want. I have seen the Metra AXXESS AIP-HD02-ID (http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s..._HD02_AIP.html) and an mlink? (http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.ph...7&cat=0&page=1). Am i missing anything else that will work? what is the best if I want to control the ipod from the ipod not the head unit.
Also, i have read the there is better sound from the ipod dock connector to the radio than the headphone jack, is that correct.
Thanks in advance for the help, the forum looks great.

I have a ipod connection to my aftermarket radio through the dock, and a buddy of mine has one through the headphone jack. I think going trough the dock is more clear and maybe a little louder, but there's not a very big difference at all. At least not enough to worry about.

Either would work if you want to charge and use your ipod through the factory head unit. From what it says in the second link (the autotoys one), you cannot control the ipod through the HU, but rather just from the ipod itself.
An ipod and auxiliary/headphone connection should be on par with each other.

the dock connector on an ipod ALWAYS outputs better sound than the headphone jack. BUT the object in the dock connector will take control of it. if your staying with a stock system though, you wont be alble to hear the differecne in sound quality either way.

I have a Pioneer head unit that allows me to control the ipod through the head unit. But I don't know how you would control it through the stock head unit. Like when your trying to search Genres or Playlists.

2005 Civic LX There isnt any direct connection or atleast nothing that i know of in stores There is something called isimple but it dosent work with our cars....so the only GOOD option would be change the radio or if u LOVE ur stock radio buy a FM Modulator That gets hard wired to the stock radio and isnt wireless its connected directly to the stock radio antenna Its about 100 in total for parts and labor at best buy.... other than that we only recommend changing the radio and getting a radio with aux or the cool new pioneers that come with the USB adapter to u can plug ur ipod to that with the Apple ipod cord provided when u buy these silly ipods Any questions PM me or bump the thread i think theres more ways to do this i just cant think of any

if you are keeping the oem head unit
then there really is no point in using the dock connector on the ipod
you will wont be able 2 tell the diff at all
and you will be spending 20 extra dollars
i went with a cheap box that plugs into the cd changer and just has AUX on it
then went 2 radio shack and got a female screw on headphone jack
cut a AUX cord in half and soldered it together and mounted by the cup holders
then i just got a headphone 2 headphone cord 2 connect my ipod
and roll it up put it in the cup holder and no one knows you have an ipod
cost 65 bucks for everything
and it kicks ***
no static nothing
hope everything works out for you

First of all let me thank you guys for the help, esp boxcarracer and cvc09. Now onto business
I really like the clean look that you have going on and i would like some more specifics if possible. I found product named DPX and DRX and i was wondering if you had some more information on the converter box or pictures to help me out?

O.k. After doing a little more research i have a few more questions while i wait for boxcarracer to take some pics :-).
I did some more research and i have gathered that the *best* solution would be to replace the head unit to a newer one. One of the more common rationalities for this is that it will sound better. How does this work? it does not make sense that replacing the head unit would increase sound quality.
