Tach install question 2001 civic dx
I just got an autometer tach for christmas, and im curious if i i need the distributorless ignition adapter for installing on my car? I checked around here for a diy, and no luck; I also checked out autometer's website awhile back and it said something about 7thgens have a special tach hookup. Im guessing this is the tach test connector? Im not quite sure, i have help from my dad who has done just about everything imaginable to a car yet he is not that familiar with distributorless ignition. Can someone help me please?

Re: Tach install question 2001 civic dx
there's a test tach wire behind the passenger side headlight. on my 04, it was blue, with a white stripe or something. you'll know it when you see it, there's some kind of odd, square looking plug on the end of it. just splice the signal wire for the new tach in there. if you have any problems, let me know, i've since removed my aftermarket tach now that i've swapped clusters, but the wire is still there, spliced into the test tach wire. let me know if you need me to snap a quick pic of it.

Hey, long time reader, first time poster.
I just used the DIY in this thread on Honda-Tech. It went great.

I've got an '05 VP Coupe. Here's my tach. I know it's ricey but it's the only rice I've got.

Re: Tach install question 2001 civic dx
I did a tach install on my friends 92 sentra and i just ran it to the tach signal on the ECU. It will more than likely be different on out cars.
Re: Tach install question 2001 civic dx
I thought about doing that. A friend of mine had to get a new cluster in his '03 sedan and he took it to Honda since it was under warranty. They replaced his original cluster with a refurb and his odometer info is all messed up. They told him that the info is stored in the odometer itself and that they made a note of the change in his records. I don't know how much BS Honda gave my friend but I decided that a little bit of rice was worth not dealing with that.

Yeah, I have a 03 Auto Cluster that I am swapping in a 97 Civic(heh finally figure out the wiring) but when I went to the Honda dealer they gave me a sticker that I could put in my door with the original mileage but it would be nothing official. They said the DMV could do something but when I asked they had no clue what I was talking about. Thats the only reason I haven't swapped yet is because Im not sure what to do bout the mileage.

Hey i've got a 01 LX and behind the cluster is a plug with the signal wire already attached. I'm not sure exactly which one it is (a friend did it for me) There were only 2 unused wires and they are already color coded. The third on the tach would be for ground. Hope it helps

Let me simplify this(sorry I kinda had to read it over to get exactly what you were saying, just trying to help
), The LX civics do not have a tach on them but on the wiring harness that goes into your cluster to control it there is still a tach wire attached. So you could just pull your cluster out and hook into that wire instead of running it into the engine bay. Thread
