Hey guys, I have an 04 civic as you can tell by my name. I was overheating at long idles. I just changed the thermostat and flushed and refilled my cooling system and everything is fine(or it seems to be). I used 50/50 mix since i was told it was better then mixing it myself. Now my question is are my fans supposed to turn when I put my heat on or what? My heat on the car is hotter then before. (maybe it is because the new thermostat? or maybe the fan?) I drove it a bit tonight and did some stop and go traffic and let it idle a bit no overheating. I put my a/c on and both of the fans kicked right on. Now are they supposed to kick right on when I put my heat on as well? I drove the car and idled for at least an hour combined and neither of them kicked on when my heat was on. So whats the deal is something ****ed up, or do the fans not kick on when the heat is on? (sorry for the essay) Thanks in advance.

nope, the fan does not come on when the heat is on (only when it is needed to keep coolant temp down). You are helping the cooling system carry away heat by using the heater so the fan will come on even less than normal. When you turn on the A/C, however, extra heat is generated so the fan could turn on. The fan is not always on with the a/c on though.
