Troubleshooting won't start
Troubleshooting won't start
I have an 01 Civic EX AT.
When I turn the key, it won't begin to crank. You can hear the relays working 'clicking' up front and it also appears that something is clicking in the ABS pump brake area (Probably normal)
I checked the fuses up front and they look good. I swapped all of the relays around in case one burned out and still the same. EXCEPT the big silver one since there isn't an equivalent that I could swap out. (It looked fine though)
I looked at the fuses underneath the driver's side and they look good. Battery terminal was reset and/or ECU fuse reset.
The ones in the driver's side seems to have more wear and tear than the fuses up front, but I took the spare 15A fuses from up front, and put them in the ig coil and fuel pump just in case. I was trying to swap the relays around underneath, but couldn't get them to be very well accessible and I thought I'd post first.
I don't think it's the battery, it won't even try to crank. The lights and radio and power windows work well.
This is with the Honda key w/ the immobolizer etc...
Car has 135K miles, and it has shown similar behavior a couple of times before. What has happened, is you'll turn the key and car won't start but you'll hear a whole bunch of relays going nuts.. trying again would fix it, so maybe it finally broke now..
I have also had the 'maintennce required' light for a while but I figured it's because I haven't changed the oil in forever. The cad had been sitting prior to this but it did run just fine for a few days.
Thoughts? Help is appreciated since this is my daily vehicle.

Have you checked for corrosion on your terminals?
We have a voltage sensor on our cars and if it detects lower than a set amount when starting all you'll hear is a "Krrkrkkrkrkk!" and it won't let the starter engage. Happens to my wife's truck about every six months. I just have to clean the gunk of the terminals and battery posts and it's good to go.

Carbon build up? On what?
If it won't even turn over, there isn't any juice getting to the plugs to even fire them. Carbon build-up has nothing to do with this.

i had the same problem a few weeks ago. pull the ignition switch off but keep it plugged in to the harness. keep the key in the ignition and try to start the car with a screw driver by turning the ignition switch. mine started when i did that.

Re: Troubleshooting won't start
well it works lol. thats how people steal these cars. immobilizer doesnt even work cause technically there is no "wrong key" in the ignition.
