is my motor blown?! UPDATED......

ok. raced a dodge charger with the hemi just a little while ago... good race, i had 1/2 car on him until 4th gear he pulled a car on me... all good. i slow down to bust a U turn and my car stalls out, i try to start it but it wouldnt start. i popped the hood and my mani is hot cherry red, like it was about to melt or something. this has NEVER happened before. i wait about 30 seconds and the car started up with a fight. i roll back home and i hear a HUGE knocking/ticking noise that goes along with the engine revs. i listened from under the hood, it seems like the knocking is coming from inside the motor. i can feel the vibration as i rev the car up and feel the valve cover with my hand. i turned the car off then started it up again and it started up with the same noise.

before the charger i ran up against my buddies g35. as i staged up and started to preload my tranny i started hearing a very very light knocking noise. barely as loud as it is now. IS MY MOTOR BLOWN? if you guys have anything to what it can be let me know. im not tuned and i havent been tuned for the longest time. i dont wanna hear all that well your not tuned thats why your motor is blown blah blah. if you know whats wrong post up! THANKS IN ADVANCED... I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP ON THIS GUYS.

Alot of guys have spare blocks and stuff on the forum so just keep checking the search forums. Maybe this time you can build up your motor for boost with internals if you have the time or money. Good thing about our cars is that theres an abundance of d17's out there for pretty cheap. Sorry about your car and hope you get it on the road soon.

most likely you spun a bearing...my friend just spun his last weekend while getting tuned, he had a built block and was at 12lbs and the tuner had him go up to 8000 rpm...and then the car died, started it back up and he heard a noise similar to that video

spun bearing or piston came apart. if theres no hole in the block, check the oilpan to see if a rod hit it. should see a pretty big dent from the inside out. if not, then the rods are intact and its a bearing or piston. if it was a piston, your head and block are f'ed. if its a bearing, crank and possibly a rod are f'ed depending on if it was a main or rod bearing.

im not tuned and i havent been tuned for the longest time.
Question answered.

That sounds like a thrown rod.... my guess is the bolts stretched and the bearing spun.

How are we to know? We havent gone into the motor or heard it in person so we can't tell. What other means of transportation do you have? If thats it then really theres no choice, you have to drive it. It may die today, it may not. You took a chance running it hard without being tuned and look where you are now. Use this as a learning lesson for things you do in the future. Good luck with your next motor.

if you really want to see what happened..drain the oil and pull the oil pan and look at the crankshaft/bearings and look for pieces of metal in the oil pan

lol. i tried going to work today and guess what... kaboom... pulled over to the shoulder and there was oil everywhere. so im guessing it was a thrown rod. lucky i got AAA plus so i get 100 miles of free towing.. ahah. towed her home.. new motor coming in soon hopefully. i learned my lesson.. this time around i will get it right, tuned etc. what other engine mods excluding pistons, rods, crank (and other related stuff) can stregthen the motors "ability" to take punishment? basically. how can i make the motor stronger without digging into the big time interal work.

I was right, but I'm not happy to hear it this time.

you got two options, head work, and block work.

Head work -> springs and retainers.. cam
Block work -> sleeves and pistons, rods, ect.

100 miles of towing... is that per lifetime or what exactly?

TUNE IT

It can take quite a bit of pounding if you have it running like it should.

well I keep saying it over and over and over like a broken record. Eventually people are gonna listen, and I would have hoped it wouldnt have taken a blown motor to make a point. Now you understand first hand why I keep saying it, maybe it'll make a little more sense why its irritating to constantly hear about people running untuned turbo setups, then coming back on here wondering why it blew up. A little money up front, or a lot of money later.
