Ran into a problem

Ok so yesterday i began to put on my RSX rear sway bar and in the process i ran into a problem. The problem was with taking off the endlinks. ok i put in the hex key and held it tight while i turned the nut and like it stripped the inside where the hex key went....!!! sorry for the blurry pic

but yeah what should i do??? im just stuck, i dont wanna buy new endlinks, but i dont know how to get this bar off.

I can't remember exactly which side I did this on, but I ran across a similiar problem. I'm pretty sure the endlinks don't follow the whole lefty loosey righty tighty thing. So when you were trying to take it off you might have been tightening it instead of loosening it. If its not too badly "stripped" try going the other way with the wrench. I just might not know my directions, but pretty sure thats how they work. Good luck though.

yea it was backwards, but i got it moving a little, then the hex key just started totating in there and it stripped. BTW this is the drivers side. Also ihow can i go to the other end of it?? like its in this little closed housing that lets it freely rotate, just to the left of the red circle.

Best bet is to replace the endlink(s). I think they're like $10-15 each from Honda/Acura.

To remove the sway bar, the nut loosens ccw. Hold the allen wrench still and turn the box wrench ccw, or pull them toward each other with the nut spinning ccw.

Did you use the right size allen wrench? I think it's a 5mm, or was that the shock/strut size. Hold on, quick search...yep 5mm it is.

you have to make sure you use a metric sized hex key or you will strip it out. and you'll have to spary lots of lube on the bolt itself so it penetrates the rust, etc.

you only option is to cut the endlink off and replace it, or i've even seen people use vice grips and be able to take off the endlink after it has been striped out.

Removing the endlink bolts for me was a bitch, infact i think i did break them..

Cause i would try and loosen em (lefty loosey) and they would just continue to spin but no loosen, so in between the endlinke / swaybar / nut, i put some channel locks between the endlink/sway bar to stop it from spinning

+1 for vise grips. Get them on the silver washer looking thing. That way has worked all 3 times that mined stripped.

see thats what i did i had a 5mm hex key and i turned CCW! but the durn thing still stripped... like before i used the hex key i soaked the thing in WD40 for like 30 min, thats y there are wet marks in the picture hehe. but durn!!! this just ticks me off... but yeah 10-15 from honda or acura... should i just buy some of grey's endlinks u think???

as for the vice grips, me and my friend tried it, and it still wont budge... now the prob is how to get the enlink off... its hard to reach the lover part of it to take it off the frame, even with the wheel off.

Saw it off. Or throw the wheel on, and drive out to a shop and let them deal with the problem.

Stop the rumor! The RSX bar is a stock bar so why wouldn't stock endlinks work? RSX and Civic endlinks are the same. The only rear sway that has more of a tendency to break stock endlinks is the Progress bar. Any endlink can break, and it is usually dependant on the driving, but the stock endlinks work just fine.

Tried to give you rep but it won't let me.

1) It is a stock bar, so it probably won't break. The only sway bar that has been shown to break stock endlinks is the progress 22mm because of it's odd shop. The 24mm progress bar comes with endlinks.

2) Saw the endlink off and get a new one. That's all you can do.

Next time, you shoud use the hex key only to lock the spindle in place to keep it from rotating and apply torque to the nut instead.
