Ebay Intake
ebay intake
I dont know how you guys arent getting much HP from your intake I know for damn sure I at least did a 5 HP gain with my $20 intake...and not because it sounds loud because i've clocked my 0-60 times and stock it was 10sec now its 9.7 with just an intake! Plus a little hint im sure 90% of u already kno but when you're racing and you switch to 2nd gear which should be around 30 mph let go of the gas briefly and slam it again it gives you a quick boost same thing in 3rd gear @ around 65mph try it out it works. And yes i'm talkin about a D17 and no i'm not new to this.
I'm not tryin to drag race my D17 does fine and I know a guy local to me thats runnin' turbo on his fully built D17 he races all the time bought all his **** from Dezod and he has almost 400hp so YES I did use racing and D17 in the same sentence.
All intakes are not created equal.
Here's an article that compared them on a dyno.

It's very hard to drow any definitive conclusions on what works best for every setup. Even when testing on a dyno you run the hood up and there's no air flow so it's not real world.
But check out the charts, most gains are negilgible till you reach 5000 rpms and peak at 7000 rpm! Not reallly beneficial at all for daily drivers.
So I'd say buy the cheapest knock-off if you really want to spend money on this. Personally, I went with a J's Racing knock-off because I found some documentation that they performed better and I think that a non-metal intake is less prone to transfering heat to the air.
Forced induction is another story...

You get what you pay for. Ebay intakes come with crap for a filter so if you dont buy a new filter such as the aem dri flow you will be sucking up a lot of crap into your engine good luck with that.

I did a lot of research when looking for an intake- I didnt only look at the numbers the companies posted because they always will make their products look better. Although, with the injen and fujita intakes- they dont get power till what- 3500? anything under that, your loosing power with daily driving- and probably gasmilage as well. I stayed away from thoes- I browsed ebay intakes for maybe 10 minutes. They are cheap. The filters are cheap. They might be a good idea if you love walmart quality, I dont however. What did I do- well, I decided to go and buy a V2 based on the numbers people ended up with- not AEM's numbers. With having it on and driving around for a few months- it feels great. I was able to get a little more wheel cherp in the begining. My sunglasses flew off my visor in the back seat on one of the first days. There wasnt any loss in low end power with the V2- I'll even go as far to say that I got a gian. (ohhh) ha!
But on another note- I side with spoonem on this... what you pay for is what you get. If you want a cheap solution to freeing up some engine bay space- get the egay brand intakes. If you want good increases in power, dont even bother. If you want to rest assured that your intake is going to fit, and block a lot of the harmful crap that could enter your engine- then drop a few extra dollars. I dont want my engine sucking leaves, seads, dusts, and pollutants up that will end up clogging my engine and creating excess carbon buildup, which in the end reduces performance.
Think about the dollars here... ebay intake- 50 bucks, then you spend another 50 bucks or so (estimate), that right there is 100 bucks. You coulda bought a barely used intake for the same price that your would have been much happier with.
If your looking for cheap mods, just stay out of your engine bay unless your coming through with a can of paint.
i didnt dyno my car i can feel a difference..i put on intake i drove it...i put on stock air box..i drove it...big diff u guys maybe mine is one out of 100 but it works good for me...the air filter is fine no problem with it...and again i bought it from ebay

I think the differences in opinion have been duly noted. I personally prefer my AEM SRI, but I can see where the ebay argument comes from. On a side note, I got my intake new off ebay for $100.
Well thanks for those who posted for the purposes of helping. I went ahead and got an ebay intake. I have not yet put it on, but I think If i buy a nice K&N filter or AEM filter it will do the same thing. Considering when I took the air restriction off it did't do much I really do not think an short ram intake would also, also taking into account that it is a DC17. But all in all, I am happy with my purchase, and thanks again for you alls help. later
yeah the filter is not the best...i havent had any problems with mine yet but a lot of people say they have...the piping is almost the same dont waist your money buying a $300 intake that does the same thing...my intake did a good increase on my car...but so many other complaints....so others just might not be that lucky

I agree slap a sticker on it!! New York has'nt gotten to the point Cali has yet but I would'nt be suprised if NY goes carb crazy in a few years to make a few extra bucks!!!!! I got a ticket for a loud exhaust once and I had my silencer in, WTF!!! I got the DC Sports single canister which is rated at 95db or below which is legal here in NY but the judge did'nt care and made me pay a 100$ fine. Anything for a buck, I love NY!!!!!!

I dunno about u guys but I have a k&n 57i and i love it. Its like a FIPK except the filter is absolutely massive. Its the size of at least two or three regular cone filters. I think mine adds some power. It definantly adds power at higher rpms and has totally changed where i shift. I used to shift at 3500 and now i shift at 4500 during regular driving. The only thing I notice is i've lost 3 miles to the gallon but part of that is I put it on in october and its been hella cold since then so its prolly gettin more dense air creating more power and using more fuel.

I got the V2 and am happy with it!!! I wouldn't say it gave me more power, freed up is more like it. A air intake wont add power to the motor just make the hp a motor is capable of producing more efficient. The 1 to 2 hp increase in efficiency is not my reason for getting one, the good look it gives the motor.
And the reason you are getting less gas mileage is because you are shifting at higher rpms. I got 33mpg before the intake and 36mpg after. They do give better gas mileage if used under normal driving, higher rpms will obviously cause less mpg!!!
i had a ebay when i bought the car, the guy before me had it in there, that **** broke at the mount and was hanging around the engine bay untill i got a injen cai used off a member here for 50 bucks, the piping is alot bigger(and sturdier) than that other thing that was in there

For the Ebay guys. I have an even cheaper idea. Go to the local muffler shop and have them bend a piece of 3 inch muffler pipe then get a filter and done. You can even pick up some Japan stickers from Walmart. There you go Intake with filter with stickers all for under 25 bucks. Paint it YELLOW it will work better than a turbo.

Sorry I forgot the radiator hose with hose clamps to fasten it on. That should work great. Or how about a dryer vent hose that would be even better. You can run it any where you want even in to the cab to suck up the prefiltered air. That would be cool.

All CAI are the same...some may give you minimum improvements but nothing you will notice from the others.. eBay one's are decent. I had one that I bought off eBay and had it on my 5.0 for over 2 years. Nothing wrong with it ever, no problems. I also live in Cali and it doesnt have a CARB number.. I have a BBk CAI now but that was giving to me by a friend that got a blower and dint need it anymore... other than that Id still have it.
