Viper 5000 + Remote Start
Viper 5000 + Remote Start
Hey,
This summer i had installed a Viper 5000 alarm system in my car, and i didn't get the version with the remote start. I really don't know my reasoning, as to why i didn't get it, so don't ask, lol.
Now that its winter, i regret it.
So i was wondering if i could get just install an attachment to the system, that would still show whats going on on my LCD remote.
I asked Futureshop, but they told me i have to remove my entire alarm system and install a new one, which is bullshit, because DEI sells a remote start addition.
So my question is, can i get it be done by someone else, without ruining the warranty with Futureshop, and is it somewhere in the GTA?
Thanks,

If you get something like an Avital 4000 and use an output from the viper alarm to trigger the white/blue activation input you'll be fine. I'm not too familiar with the 5000 but if it's LCD most likely you'll get confirmation it receives your AUX signal so that would be your confirm on remote start.
It won't show up specifically as having the engine on but it will give you confirmation it received the auxiliary signal implying the engine is on (so long as the avital 4k or whatever starter unit is properly installed). Doors will stay locked as long as ignition controlled lock/unlock is programmed off. The ignition output or another output of the avital (blue status out also) can be used with a relay to break the power to the shock sensor while it's on.
You can do it for sure, it's all about the install. If you want specifics like exact wiring just ask. I do this kind of stuff all day long.

Haha, lol. Thanks man, I appreciate it. When it comes to suspensions, engines, etc. I'm still learning. On the electrical stuff though, especially related to aftermarket, I've seen and done just about all of it and if I haven't done it I've heard about it.
Back to the project at hand. We'll say for simplicity sake we're using the Avital 4000 (4k) as the addon starter and the viper 5000 (5k) will trigger it.
Triggering 4k with 5k
5k: white/blue (-) ch3 on main harness is the output.
4k: white/blue (-) activation input is what gets hooked up to white/blue from the 5k. The programming on the 4k needs to be changed, option 8 is set at default of 2 pulses and needs to be changed to 1.
To remote start the car: press the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for about a second on the 5k remote. The 3 symbol should light up on the 5k remote signaling it transmitted and received the auxiliary. This is your confirmation for remote start.
Using status output from 4k to disable shock sensor during start
The blue (-) or blue/white (-) status output from the 4k needs to be hooked up to the 5k to disable shock sensor. A diode needs to be placed between the two units with the stripe facing the 4k. The other side of the diode will be hooked up to the blue wire on the main harness of the 5k (H1/7).
I've never used a viper 5000 this way and its kind of interesting because the manual says it will transmit a remote start on notification to the HHU?. I'm not sure if this means you will get a normal confirmation (a little exhaust trail) on the remote or if you'll just have the channel 3 confirm but either way you'll have something. The only other trick is make sure ignition lock/unlock are programmed off on the 5k unit. I think that's about it. Any other questions, let me know.
