Finally got power locks

I finally put power lock on my 2005 VP Vic. My Fiance bought me a compustar alarm like 6 months ago and I have been using in ever since w/out keyless. I could not find a good way to get power locks (due to the cable system) So I went to http://www.thehondapartsstore.com/he...All&vinsrch=no

and ordered a new latch from the LX model (#33 and #3 on the list). it bolts right in also comes with the power lock actuator. Then I hooked up a door relay module from DEI to the alarm, now I got keyless. Best part is it only cost $40 a side. The local install shop wouldn't even install the aftermarket keyless kits. if you have any questions send me a pm. I will take some pics when I do the pass side later this week.

NICE DIY!!! I would like to see pics.

I have an 04 VP.

How did you find out the latch had the power module built in?

How do you like the compustar? I want one too.

I got mine installed for $70 per door, including both actuators. The actuators I have are aftermarket. Nice mod tho!

Your local shop, sucks.

Great tip, definitely an application where actuators won't work.

You can use the door latch from a 2001 - 2005 civic lx or ex because they come with powerlocks from the factory. I did not install the switch because i use the alarm to lock and unlock the car. As for the compustar alarm, I love it. The range is awsome. I should be recieving the other latch this weekend so i will document install. basically it is just replacing the latch

are the cars wired up for power locks already and just don't have the hardware like some cars? if so i'd like to order the part and put it in then get a remote and program it. is that possible or would i have to get an alarm as well?

I think you have to get an alarm. What he did was put a latch wih the power lock actuator. There still isn't a switch on the door for it. The alarm locks/unlocks the doors.

Right Crazycivic05?

I'm wondering if it would be as easy for a power window swap.

There is a kit you can buy for like 99 bucks, its supposedly pretty easy. Look up Dx-R in this search field, i believe bellz has an entire page of dx mods. Great DIY btw, pics are highly anticipated, im going to go order mine now =)

His vic had cable locks from factory, the kind aftermarket actuators cannot be attached to. Most civics use rod locks which aftermarket actuators can be integrated with. What he has done here is replace his cable locks with the factory rods and factory actuators from an LX. My response was to say aftermarket actuators could not be used with his application but that it was a good tip because he had found a way around this dilemma.
(If you look at the diagram on hondapartsstore.com that crazycivic referenced #17 is the cable lock he had, #3 and #33 is the replacement lock rod and actuator system he installed.) It would be possible to try and 'rig' aftermarket actuators to the piece of the cable lock above the clamp but it would probably wind up very ghetto and not be reliable. I certainly wouldn't attach my name to any install like that.

I suppose I should have made the following statement instead:
Great tip, definitely an application where actuators won't work well.

Actually there is enough room underneath the lock "button" if you will to put an acuator rod into, and then put a tiny screw through the housing of the "button" into the rod. Problem is it has to be spaced perfectly or else the lock on the door will tilt to the right (or left) and look like assmar. It can be done reliably, but takes alot more work. The factory route is definatley worth it. Oh, and skipbarber has a link to the DX site in his sig. BTW skip have you done the power window conv?

So I asked around and only one of the guys I work with has ever had to deal with adding actuators the way skipbarber did and he was doing warranty work. He said he would never do one again and felt it was one of the biggest wastes of time he's ever dealt with (no money for him due to the warranty aspect.) Props to you skipbarber for completing this and having it work reliably for years. How long did it take?

Figuring out how to remove the bar from the outer door handle assembly included, prolly an hour and a half tops. The rail for the window has to be loostened so the latch can come out as well in case your gonna be doing it. Aftermarket takes about the same amount of time.
