gauge cluster conversion
Hey what's up...i have a 2k1 civic dx..those geniuses at honda of course made the dx gauge cluster the no frills cluster of the models...is it possible to change the dx cluster and upgrade it to a cluster made for ex? are there any wiring concerns? also, what about those extra blank spots for where certain things are supposed to light up? can any help? i have an ex so i dunno if u have a tach and stuff... but just leave that and buy some autometer gauges. u can get a nice 5" monster tach with shiftlight and mount it on the A-pillar like i have. also get other temp gauges, air/fuel ratio gauge, etc custom mounted in various spots
no actually i would like to upgrade my dx guage cluster too because i also want to additionally do the a pillar guage pods. anyone want to help us instead of stating the obvious.
It can be done, some guy named yositoco did it, he said it was direct bolt on, but you'll have the mileage that's on the new cluster...I'm still looking to buy one either LX or EX manual, both have the Tachometer...
hang on there Im right now doing the same swap, i even ordered both honda service manuals and the wireing connectors (A and B)inside the harness that goes to the cluster is all different. what i mean is that the tach wire if you look at it isnt blue like its sopost to be inside pin 13 on the green connector side, Its yellow with red. Take a look for yourself. I have tried and tried to get in touch with yositoco, but I have yet to get a responce from him. Im thinking also since some of our cars were built in canada the wiring for the cluter is different. Ifyou want to check to see if your honda was made in canada or the us just check the vin number.
for example
1HG ES1 5 2 * L 000001
you guys see where the letter L is in the example vin number. If yours is L then your car was made in usa, if your code has a H (in place of the L)then it was made in canada. I have been thinking maybe yositoco car was made in the us to where he would have no problem swaping the cluster. But the rest of us might run into some problems. Hope this helps

Ok heres the deal. ALL the wires going to the guage cluster wires on both connectors are all the same. I spent a while today tracing the wires and the DX has all the same wires as the lx model. This means you should have no problem swaping the cluster. Also if you are looking at the cluster wires , connector A and B the numbers on the pin lay out are different. what i mean is that pin 1 is on the right hand side instead of the left like the cluster says. Im going to order my new cluster next week , because oin 13 ( blue wire ) is there =)
THERE FOR THE DX IS ABLE TO SWAP TO A LX CLUSTER. =)
