quick question....
quick question....
on the civic is it better to go with the short ram or the full cold air system. i personally have always thought the full cold air was always better but i have been hearing about how short ram is better in the civic..... just want to get it straightened out..

If you don't mind spending a lil more money get the cold air. Just have to watch for big puddles if ur dropped. You barely feel the difference but I did notice a bit more torque wiht the cold air. The short ram will be louder though since it sits higher in the engine bay. Now i have the AEM V2 best of both worlds. Bigger piping than a regular cold air but fits like a short ram.
yeah i figured i would go with the cold air and the that bypass by aem that provents the hyrdo lock ... i just heard that short ram was better and then i heard cold air was better.... tell me more about this aem v2 if you can??

Well the AEM V2 is not a true cold air bc it doesn't go down into engine bay like previous model civics. The piping is SIGNIFICANTLY BIGGER and sits in the location as a short ram would. The filter fits just behind the battery but it will definitely fit. The piping by the filter is fat then it is welded to a smaller pipe that connects to the throttle body. It'd designed to create some sort of velocity tunnel. Anyways, the sound is just UNREAL. If you get it put it on w/o an exhaust and you'll have an orgasm i swear im not lying. You notice alot of power up top and down low its pretty close to stock. I have no complaints about this intake. I had a BOMZ cold air before and that was alright but the damn filter just kept getting dirty down there. It's a bitch to take it out and clean all the time. The v2 is def easy to clean/replace and I def recommend it. You won't be dissappointed but I've also heard great things about the Injen intake as well. Hope this helps.
The v2 is about the same price as the cold air with bypass. I would go for the v2
The v2 is a dual chamberd short ram. It has the intake to a 3 inch pipe then it is connected to a 2.5 inch pipe which connects to the tb. Goe to aempower.com or chech out the parts and review centers.

why not look into the k&n or the volant. they both are short rams but with a cold air box to seperate the filter from under hood heat. and its 50 state legal. not to mention the fact that the high density platic piping helps reduce the heat as well.

The K&N is a good intake but the volant when they came out were something like 300 bucks. It seems like a well made product but initially when I was searching for an intake I saw 0 reviews for this intake and no one on this forum seems to own one. Honestly, I'm sure all of them produce the exact amount of power. I just fell in love with the V2 because of its sound. Seriously no other intake has that deep grunt that the V2 has. Someone who has it can back me up. Also the AEM is CARB legal too.

what your base for comparison. i have had a few intakes in my day and the sound of them doesnt change much between each kind. if your buying an intake for sound anyway you should refrain from buying it. that just makes you another ricer if that is your purpose for a purchase. and loudness has nothing to do with performance

Familycar If you were responding to what I said of course buying an intake for sound is stupid but have you ever heard the V2. I bought the v2 without knowing what it sounded like and bought it bc it had great performance reviews. And whoever said nething about buying it for loudness. Regardless I'm not picking a fight... an intake is just a pipe and filter fortunately this is probably the only well made product for our cars so choose wisely dbak123.

I meant all intakes K&N, volant, injen, aem, not just mine. Before I get negative repped for being vague... an aftermarket intake for our d17 is probably the best mod you can do for our cars. All known manufacturers make a decent product. For me I liked the AEM and would consider others. If you want some good info check out the rate your intake thread.. It pretty much has reviews of all the intakes out for our cars. Does that help hurts2bstock?

what i am trying to get across is dont buy an intake becasue it sounds good. that is the basic advice youve given here. you have no basis for comparison. there really isnt a power difference between any intake. now quality of worksmenship is a key but in reality a metal intake is a bad design regardless of the application. so how can you say its one of the best intakes when it doesnt even use the best material. see my point. your not comparing apples to apples
