Cat and Streight Pipe
Ok so I got the APC headers which bypass cat, my question is. Is the lack of cat bad for the car? I was talking to this dragster maniac and that is what I got from the conversation:\
We have two sensors on the exhaust First on the headers and second on the cat. The thing is that with the second sensor detecting the same stuff as the first one the computer will "think" that the cat is not doing it's job and that the mixture is to rich and will restrict the fuel to injectors to make it more lean. And lean is bad for the engine, so i am thinking if I should bypass the cat and just drill a hole in the straight pipe for the second sensor, or get a high flow cat that would filter the fumes a little bit and make reading on two sensors different from each other. Man I think I am speaking jibirish - however u spell it - do u guy get my point?? Peace

Ok check this out.
I know that they make a product called MIL eliminators that go between the second o2 sensor and the hole in the exhaust pipe. I have this on my mustang ( The civic is my wifes). It fools the cpu into thinking that the cats are working OK. I dont know if they make them for Civiic's but its worth a try. They might even be universal.
was that a question or statment, i'm confused
the cat neutralizes unused fuel making it unflamable.
what you said makes sense. just put the sensor into the straight pipe.
next worry about emmissions, if it applies to your state.

Sr@w emisions, I will worry bout them when I am 40 or so. It is simple I do not want to make my engine run lean with the straight pipe only because the sensor is gonna pick up that the fumes after cat are rich in unburned gasoline, above that I have Venom which will be ready to run in 3 days and last thing I do not want to do is run lean. Do u gus know where I could get the MIL eliminators ?? Thx

they have that computer program that can help you run normal if you dont have a cat. i think its only for domestics (gm and ford).
what i dont understand is the problem with cats, just leave it

If I am not miteaken in one of the supper street magazins they made a straight pipe on the 99 or 98 mitsu ( it had a turbo ) and it had a 15 hp gain I do not have a turbo but I think it would make a big difference if I would bypass it or get rid cat.

All I can say is that you are definately going to run into problems. Why not just get a high flow cat or something. Plus, you're car probably won't pass the yearly inspection. I bet you would see a few hp from not having a cat though.

well, I am nt worried emission test. If I am not mistaken in ILLinois the car needs to go to one if it is 7 years or older, and then every 1,5 years. I guess I am just gonna put a pipe and if I will have any problems the I will consider the high flow cat. Later
here on Toronto, new cars have 3 years.. until your start taking emissions.... and it's taken i think every year or two... holy **** we had to find a place that would do it for my friend's accord cause he got a straight pipe and exhuast... had to find a way to bypass the government... Still the cat is there for a reason if it's a daily driver... and somone said sumthing about might adding 15hp.. i dun think so.... eclipse are setup for modifications straight from the factory.. it's ECU was programmed for mods and doesn't need tweaking till you go around the 300's i think but not sure(maybe lil less)... anyways here there are a lot of HK ppl with rides that are maxed... like nothing else to do on the car... and they gotta cheat the system to keep it on the road
With no cat and a straight pipe you will basically be running with absolutely no backpressure sure youll gain a few horses in high end maybe like 15 from headers no cat and straight pipe but off the line youll suck ***** ive got a straight pipe and thats bad enough for losing all my low end
