Funny, I was having a convo about this tonight....
My friend bought a 2k2 Civic Ex Auto. The people before him had taken the stock axle-back off, cut the muffler off the pipe, and just welded a pipe to the stock axle back flange. It sounds nice, not as loud as one would think, and it has a nice little rumble to it

SRT4 rumble? Have you ever sat in an SRT4 for more than 5 minutes? its the most irritating annoying car you'll ever sit in.
And no it won't sound like that, its got far more displacement than you do, and they actually spent some time acoustic tuning the exhaust, which you probably won't do.

when i was building my exhaust, i had the axel back portion off and started it. had a real deep tone because of the resonator. if you cut the resonator off, it sounds like youre farting in a coffee can.
the man is just doin it temporarily to help his friend out...
so yeah man u will be fine ..it wont be that bad u can go a day or two with no muffler

actually i have my muffler totally off with a little dump pipe after the cat and people are always giving me mad props on how it sounds. its VERY annoying to drive but i let my friend drive it so i can hear how it sounds outside the car and its awesome, it was a 25 buck exhaust, haha
i always doubt that it sounds nice, cuz srt-4 sound is changed compare to ous due to the turbo on the exhaust manifold, brings the noise down a bit. my buddy did it on his wrx 2002 and it is the best sound ever!!! as for our car, your doing temporary, so why not, thinking about it, i got a after market exhaust and im going to remove the axle-back one day just to try it out for fun!!!

i ran without a muffler before at the track and it sounded fine. but i have a turbo and i loved the way i could hear it spool up. but for the street i would never leave it that way. but like he said , it would only be a temp thing.
about no muffler
i came across this about a week ago.. there are 2 options. unbolt your exhaust from the header.. or unbolt your mufler.. unbolting your mufler sounds great.. at least on my 02 2 door civic it sounded great... unbolting it from the header makes it sound pretty shitty.. sounds more like a truck.
