Power shifting Q's

I heard that when you race or even on normal driving, it's always better to power shift.... what do everyone have to say about that? Do you use it when you street race only?

doube clutching w/o releasing the gas pedal.... that way you don't lose out on power while shifting gears...

Well Unless you're feet are faster than Muhammad Ali's hands where not letting go of the gas means a blown engine fast... With Modern cars and full Syncro's there's no longer any true use for "Power Shifting" With older cars that did not have syncromeshed gears it was almost a necessity... I Been racing 1/4 miles for about 3 years now..The Only time you ever have to double clutch with our cars is when Downshifting at higher speeds...My Old 74 Dodge Coronet needed to be power shifted for anything more than idle acceleration..with new cars power shifting wears you clutch faster and slows you down bro...

sounds good to me... I personally don't power shift all the time when I race but I got a tip from my mechanic who himself races and he said that power shifting is actually good for the clutch. This is due to the fact that sometimes the clutch sticks when you race if you don't double clutch therefore wearing the clutch down. That's why, he said, when you double clutch, it prevents the clutch from sticking. It made some sense when he was telling me this so I learned how to do it. I think it does help keep the rpm up just enough so you don't lose some speed while shifting. I only use it when it's a close race and it always works...

yea what mohawk said!

if your hands and feet are that fast not to bounce off redline while double clutchin, why don't you just blip the throttle to keep the revs up?

well... the way I do it, I let off of the gas pedal just enough so your rpm don't go shooting up to the red line but only to keep it to the same level or a little bit higher (like 5ks rpm or so higher) then once I shift it into the next gear then I floor it down again. I don't know how I do it really but it works. Took alot of practice while at a stop light but I managed to get used to it. Muscle-memory I guess...??

Hehe...I don't really notice my actions too much when I power shift. I'm not sure who mentioned this before, but you gotta make a rela connection with your car, or in other words get a real feel for it. I've kinda coomplished that to the point where I really don't feel the need to watch my RPM's. But I do once in a while. I just try to keep my eyes on the road when I race.
