Angry Overheating Woes...

Hi bros..
My civic is giving me the biggest headache ever. It juz keeps boiling the coolant like no tomorrow, at times, upto 126deg C, although mostly at 113deg C. It only started behaving like this in the recent weeks, and I have sent it to the mech for a number of days already.

It doesnt go above 85deg C if i drive it mildly under 3k rpm, and once I vtec the guy or turns on the a/c, the temp will keep going up, higher n higher till the meter gauge shows max, n of cos, i will normally stop the car for a 'break' prior to the max to cool down.

I have gotten the head skimmed and cams changed last time (was running okie), and have since reverted back to stock cams (skimmed head still remaining though), and had added mugen thermostat n fan switch recently in prep for TC when this starts happening.

So far, I have tried changing the thermostat n fan switch back to stock, changed water pump n coolant n flushing the radiator, but it still doesnt help. Any bros here hv any idea what's going on and what's my next step

Thanks alot for the assistance...

have you checked for a head gasket leak? thats what it sounds like to me - also, never change out the thermo in 4 bangers, they are meant to run at the spec tempature.

Have you check to see if your fans are working? If not just bridge thise 2 wires together *where the relay is at* and the fan should kick on.

The thermo opens at lower temperature than stock... and when used with the correct fan switch, it will lower the temp by a fair bit. My fren's coolant nv go beyond 85deg C aft he installed the Mugen set...

The fan runs... but temperature doesnt quite go down... and both fans r running...

Umm... how do i check for gasket leak??

that is true about the thermo, but in our cars VTEC only kicks in at a certain temp.

maybe your radiator is plugged, take it to a shop and have them pressure check the system. Minor things like a fuked up radiator cap can throw the system way off. Easy way to check for pressure is just to run the car and feel the radiator hoses see if they are stiff. Also if youve done any mod's like removing the fan shroud that can cause the car to over heat too. good luck

i bet the gasket is leaking because of the shaved head. same happened to me. check the oil and coolant to see if they look normal and not milky. do a compression test on the engine and cooling systems. check the plugs. replace the radiator cap.
