there are three things that have to happen to get VTEC (oil pressure, RPM, throttle position). You are probably pulling a signal from too far up the chain (it's sending a signal when only 1 or 2 of the conditions are satisfied). VTEC lights are rice anyway.
well what ever they are, what do you mean to far up the chain....it is about 2-3inches from the ECU...thats where it said to tapped into the line at. oh and i know that it depends on oil pressure, rpm, and TP...but it will come on at around 3k with me just easing into the gas...and i have a manuel.

he means that it is turning the light on at the fist sign of vtec, not when it accually engages, those 3 things have to happen before opens a wire can not change the RPMs that vtec engages

OK, here it is. Run a 0 gauge wire from the positive battery terminal to your gauge cluster. Run this wire to a LED and ground it. Start your car up and shout "VTEC".

just because the light comes on at 3k, doesn't mean the vtec solenoid switches to hi cam. there is more than one signal needed to do that like mentioned above. and vtec comes on around 4500 rpm when the gas is floored and car is at operating temp.
read this and yah know that we have 2 vtec point.

my god guys, if the guy wanted to be flamed 24\7 he'd buy an srt-4, he had a simple question now answer it instead of telling him how wrong what HE wants to do to HIS car is, only thing i can think of is try tapping into one of the other 2 lines instead of what you currently tapped into, i wish i could help more, but i dont have a ex....look in the diy section as well, i think theres a diy for it in there.
thanks for the input guys...on the VAFC isnt there a light that comes on when vtec kicks in? and so in our cars vtec only works at FULL throttle...along with the oil pressure, rpm, and temp? i was just suprised that it only works at full throttle.

it's only purpose is to save fuel at full throttle, so it only kicks in at full throttle. vtec-e isn't for power. it could also be argued that i-vtec (found in the K-series) is only for fuel economy too, since it allows better response out of a smaller engine (one cam down low for torque and one up high for HP). smaller displacement USUALLY equals better fuel economy. Honda tried to carry this philosophy over to its "performance" engines and, imho, failed b/c the NSX engine and the S2000 engine offer good HP/L, but pretty miserable fuel economy and not many liters (so not much HP). The vette engine has better HP, Torque, fuel economy, and weighs significantly less than an NSX engine. I know that some people will reply about NA horsepower being best, and I agree. many vette people are getting 600whp on a stock LS1 block NA and (and torque peaks at 3000rpms, not like in a supra motor)
when you use the C5R race block (akin to the F20C block b.c it was built from the ground up for no compromise performance) all bets are off and you can build 8000+ RPM 430 cubic inch world beaters. gas mileage will suffer in these applications, but it will in a fully built ITB F20C as well.
ok its pointless and stupid...hmmm you have stuff done to your car, such as billet aluminum lower grille, sohc vtec sticker which could be labeled as pointless and stupid...but i didnt say that...so why dont you keep your comments to your self. this is addressed to rhcp0801.
