Remote Trunk Release

The previous owner of my car had a remote starter installed in the car, so he got a new remote with that when it was installed. The new remote has buttons for Lock/Unlock, Remote Start, and Trunk Release. All the buttons work except for Trunk Release. Also, my factory remote doesn't work at all anymore (they must of changed all the wiring around.)

Someone on another site tried to help me out before, but it involved using a relay and changing the wiring, and it didn't really make sense that it would make the trunk release work, so I didn't go through with it. I've attached the .pdf file he sent me for what wires I was supposed to change around. If that actually would work, could anyone explain to me how?

PDF file is here.

Here is what he wrote in his email...

"There should be a blue wire coming out of the unit. This is the trunk release. To test it use a multimeter and test for ground when you push and hold the trunk release. If this works follow the instructions on the wiring diagram for the trunk release."

If that doesn't make sense and won't work, does anyone know how I could make it work?

civics don't have power trunk release you have to install a trunk solenoid to mechanically pull on the trunk cable to realease it, just hook up the solenoid to any Auxillary channel on the alram

that diagram is for interfacing into a oem power trunk release. Your going to either need a trunk pop solenoid or the Accord trunk latch like the one thats in the picture. I have the accord trunk latch and it works great and looks stock. The trunk pop solenoids are a PITA to install, and they look ugly.

If you go with the accord trunk latch, your going to need to feed it to 12 volt signal for it to operate.
Pin 85 12 volts constant
Pin 86 trunk release output from your RS/alarm
Pin 30 Wire going to trunk release
Pin 87 12 volts constant

If your alarm/RS brain outputs a positive signal for the trunk pop, ground pin 86 and put the output on pin 85

Is there anyway to interface that setup with a factory remote with the trunk release on it?

you'll need to swap out the keyless entry unit like the DIY for using a crv keyfob . The civic keyless entry unit doesnt have an auxilary channel. You could set it for each time you unlock your doors, the trunk will pop, but thats not really a good idea.

Thing is, it's an Acura El, not a Civic. It's already set up for trunk release, but the new remote I have doesn't work with it.

directtechs doesnt have the wiring charts for an el, probably because its so close to the civic. Does the trunk release work with the OEM keyfob? if it does go to the trunk release and use a DMM to figure out if the release takes a positive or negative signal to operate.

No, it doesn't work anymore with the OEM remote. They must of changed the wiring around when they installed the remote start.

hmm
if you can get a hold of a DMM, see if theirs continuity to ground with the wire thats coming from the trunk latch
