Question about Vp Civic

Hey I got a really tricky question for those who know how the different forms of VTEC work. ok so my friend has a 2k5 civic vp. That civic doesn't have vtec at all. It's still a d17 but does having no vtec mean it has no vtec-e? as in vtec economy? I know that the economy version of vtec comes in most civics and base RSX's too. It shuts off two valves at low rpms thus making your car a 14 valve car. If the civic VP has no vtec? does that mean all 16 valves are moving at all times?

I know it doesn't have vtec

What I'm asking is:

Since the VP doesn't have vtec does that mean all 16 valves are engaged all the time? I know my lx has vtec-e which means only 12 valves are running at low rpms which saves gas. But with no vtec at all the VP shouldn't do that right?

Uhm... LX doesn't have VTEC-e...
EX's have VTEC-e...
They ust mention it as VTEC, so as not to get you confused.
If it were i-VTEC, for example, they would specify it, since i-VTEC is better than VTEC, performance-wise...
VTEC-e isn't any better than VTEC, performance wise...

OK I'm still not getting my question answered here.

What I'm asking is this:

Vtec-e shuts off a cylinder effectively making your civic a 12 valve car at low RPMs. This nets better gas mileage is day to day driving.

Because certain models of civic don't have vtec-e, does that mean that they run as 16 valve cars all the time?

Ok, Vtec-E does not shut a cylinder off. Yes the car runs on 12 valves at low RPM. and as RPM increase, at a certain point set by the computer, a signal is sent to open a spool valve which directs oil pressure to a mechanical sliding pin. the pins lock the rocker arms actuating the valves to the follower on the high RPM cam lobe.

Now if the car doesnt have any vtec, then yes all 16 valves work all the time.

THANK YOU! So not having vtec-e technically could be beneficial (in terms of speed) since all the valves are engaged. I like the thought of that.
