Check Engine Light Problem

I just installed Kamikaze Headers into my 01 LX, and after driving around for maybe 10 or so miles the CEL went on. I thought i could just turn it off by resetting the CPU, but it hasn't worked. And then i thought it had something to do with all the airflow coming in irregularly with how much was going in before, maybe the CPU was confused and hasn't adjusted yet to the change? I've also got an AEM SRI and a Magnaflow Catback Exhaust hooked up, so maybe it's put the airflow totally out of sync??? i don't know. I'm not exactly sure if i should just keep driving while the light is on, cuz i'm thinking the computer will just readjust later on, or if it's really bad to drive with the CEL on? Please help

yeah, i did. there were 2, one on the bottom and one on the left side of the header. I think the one on the left side is the primary sensor, but i'm not sure what to do with them. I thought about disconnecting one, leaning towards the bottom sensor, but i'm not sure if that's a good idea, so i might just leave it on. I guess i could drive with the light on, but it bothers me as i drive cuz i keep thinking something's wrong. WHat should i do?

Get the code read, then go from there.

ya i agree with k20txem2, get the code read at your local auto zone or advance for free, and then go from there. It could be that one of your o2 sensors is bad.

My Kamikaze Headers are illegal, cuz i'm in Cali and the headers take off my cat, since the original headers had a built-in cat. will they still check my codes for free, even though i've got an illegal header on?

Then thats probably why your check engine light is on, because you have no cat, so you'ed probably pull a bad cat code. Hope you dont have to get a smog test anytime soon, or get pulled over.

similar problem, i have installed a downpipe which has eliminated the cat. i have heard there are ways to get the check engine light off. however i do not know any of them... i know it is illegal and i simply do not care. it takes about 30 minutes to put the oem cat back on for smog testing. the power gains are very noticeable. any ideas please post or email me at howboutthemapplz@aol.com thanks guys LaTeR

yeah, i know it's illegal, but if i get pulled over, chances are he won't look at the headers. I've never heard of anyone ticketed because their headers weren't carb legal through a cop, but yes, they don't pass the smog test. My smog's in another year, so i've some time before i have to put the stock header back in. It's just that the CEL is bothering the **** out of me, and i need a way to turn it off. Do you think just disconnecting the O2 sensor and putting it back on would help?

to put it to you straight and other people have already told you, your check engine light is on becaue you eliminated your cat converter by installing aftermarket headers. The LX have them in the header, now your new header has none. so as of right now you are producing very high emissions. Your o2 sensor is getting a very bad reading coming out of the header and is throwing a code. you cant really do anything about it. You can get a o2 simulator which makes the computer think everythings fine, bit if this all really bothers you that bad, put your stock header back on.

You must not live in California. If you look rice, where I live, up goes the hood. Next they look for carb stickers and if they don't find any, out comes the tow truck.
