redline problem
redline problem
i have civic 01 hx auto and i was wondering if this is normal when i floor it. It stays at 5000 rpm and it doesent go beyond that and i was wondering if this is normal for the hx auto because there isnt enough power this would help me out alot thanks guys

um its supposed to go higher if there's more rpm before redline. Look and see where the red starts. And don't you need to put it in sport mode or something?
hopefully your not going this on public roads.

probably a vtec malfunction that causes it to go into safe mode and limit the revs to 5000 rpm.
I hope i didnt make this up, i just remember a couple years ago some guy with a ITR told me the same thing happened to him.

CVTs aren't supposed to redline from what I remember. It's constantly variable, meaning it's purposely compensating the gear ratio as you accelerate. Your peak torque is at 5k, it's just the system keeping the ratios in your maximum power range. If you went higher in rpms, it would stress the engine a lot, and you'd be even slower, so there's no point.
