Another Cold Air Intake Question

Is it necesary to remove the ground terminal from the battery before installing a CAI? If so why? Info would be appreciated. Thanks

it's mainly so the ecu resets and accounts for the extra air flow.

well the ecu does adapt after a tank of gas or so. It just takes a bit longer than if you straight out reset the fuel trims.

yea the most that will happen you'll get an engine light as I did for not removing it, but it goes away after the first tank of petro. At least mine did.

ya its mostly to set the idle rpms, which really doesn't come into play unless you get a new throttle body or something. Your car has already learned from whatever you added 3 tanks ago.

thats a common problem with the lx anyway. header gets clogged up too easily and then overheats.

Thanks guys. I just now read replies on that but I didnt unhook the negative battery terminal. By the way, cold air intake is installed! Check out the DIY on AEM cold air intake and it tells you how to reset your e.c.u.

I did however have a problem when taking off the factory air intake enclosure(where the air filter is at)! 3 of the 6 bolts stripped out ,breaking the plastic casing the bolts thread into. But my friend who has owned and worked on some of the nicest automobiles (Supra, Peugot etc.) spotted a clamp around the throttle body, under the casing with the filter in it. He loosened the clamp and off came the box! I will have pics of the clamp and the stripped out bolts soon........and here are the pics

hmm... I never had that problem, although once, ran the car hard for a good 10-15 minutes and it stunk a bit.
