D17a1 bottom end
Here is a noob question, I tried searching and didn't find exactly what I was looking for.
It the D17a1 bottom end the same as the a2? I was looking at buying a new a1 then rebuilding my head from my vtec and putting the two together. Would this be a pain in the but or would is simply bolt together. I have higher miles on my current engine and would like to upgrade to a turbo, I would rather start out with a lower mileage engine before I added boost.

the vtex heads bolt right on to the non-vtec engines. search it up and you will find a diy and a few other threads about people putting an ex head on their lx. so seems like yes you can do that.
but search and read first

Don't get a new D17. Get a k20. They are a lot faster and better for turbos. I'm eventually going to get one followed by a turbo or a sequential blower. Another popular setup is a K20 with a K24 head.

I have considered a swap with either the k20 or the 24. However, if I use a stock d17 with a few modifications in the exchange process I can achive nearly the same hp. Plus if I ever choose to sell the car I can remove the turbo set-up and make an additional profit, whereas the engine swap would have to go with the car.

Keep in mind my car is a daily driver and I drive 35 miles one way to work through the week. I can replace a d17 for pennies compared to a k20 or 24.
