To those who have driven both EX and LX..
To those who have driven both EX and LX..
I had the oportuninty to drive an 04 LX. i have an 04 EX. Ill be damned if the LX was just as fast or slow as my car!! What gives? They are both autos. I thought the geering and the vtec would have made mine quicker, but I really feel like i wated a few thou right now. Both cars have around 20 miles. Heres the kicker. i have a KN drop in and his is a stock paper filter. No other mods.
What gives??
What gives??
Oh wow
The EX VTEC is the VTEC-E. You people should do some research before saying that stuff, that's how people get misguided. Check the search for how SOHC VTEC in our cars work to understand why you're NOT getting a performance boost. Now as for the LX, yes it is lighter and is geared more for acceleration, but which means it has a lower top speed. I know this cause people are constantly posting about mixing and matching actual gears from different trim models in their trannys. If you think you've wasted your money buy a 2000 EX and then you'll have all the same imenities but you'll have the famous y8 manifold and VTEC which will kick in at 5600 r's.

All I know is that I remember people people talking about swapping in the first 3 LX gears to get faster 0-60 times.

the ex is alot heavier. That moonroof, and all the motors and stuff, abs, etc all add up. Its like having an extra person or two riding with you.

I have a vid of a person with a turbo EX, and it seems like every gear the car lands 500 RPM higher than my LX.

yeah i agree the gearing on both are similar, so you won't really notice a difference. It doesn't matter if its a ex/lx or manual/auto. The civic is a slow car with the exception of the si and type R.
If you bought a ex for extra speed then you bought the ex for the wrong reasons. Might as well just bought a si or rsx. Most people buy an ex because its comes with abs stock and moonroof and some other extras. The vtec part is more of a marketing thing then a performance add-on.

LX civics are just as fast as EX...
no really im serious
however LX civics can run more boost than EX civics. So in FI terms the LX civic is infact better than the EX
EX civics have ABS though
there just 2 cents

how about you read my whole post first, Jebus!!! i said the vtec thing for the ex was more of a marketing thing. i never said it was for performance. I didnt buy a civic for performance, i bought it for mpg. If i wanted performance i could've bought a 300zx for 5k and put 2k in mods and have a 13-14second car or a gsx for 10k.

if its not a marketing thing then why even mention it. The 6th gens made vtec famous. Most people dont know the difference between vtec-e and the performance vtec, so most people think vtec is like turbo or something like that. Honda knows this and has capitalized on it. They just mention and let people think what they want.
this is quoted directly from the honda website:
"With a high-performance, 1.7-liter, 127-hp VTEC® engine and 15-inch alloy wheels and tires, the Civic EX Coupe is at the top of its class."
I dont see them mention vtec-e in there statement. *cough cough that equals marketing.
None the less, your previous post implied i said the vtec on the ex was for performance, when i clearly did not. Just read the whole post before you comment or try to flame.

When you say "than a performance add-on" it implies that it is one, but still less than the comparative. And I didn't flame, that would be calling you a noob or saying you're a dumbass or some ****. I was going on articulation.

Your taking words out of context. You can make that argument, but if you read my whole post then you would know just from the content of my post that i already said the ex was slow in that same post. Why would i think its a performance add on when i already said the car was slow?
Anyways you asked how its marketed and i showed you. You get the general idea. thats how honda markets vtec, some people fall under that trap. Its actually one of the more sucessful marketing ploys to sell cars. Why do you think toyota mentions there vvti, mitsubishi mentions the mivec in there cars descriptions now.
This doesn't even relate to the topic of the thread. Think whatever, i know most of the other people that read my post understood what i said.
In the end, ex civic or lx civic both slow cars...done.
