Headlights.

Hey guys, I want to get the HID lights for my civic but at the time do not have the money for them. So that being said, we all know the stock headlights are really dim and barely light the road. I have seen so many different headlights at the auto parts store and on ebay, all the 8000k and 8500k stuff. Is this a gimmick? I konw some HID kits are not even close to 8000k, so how can these lights, which cost 12 bucks be brighter than hid kits costing over 400 bucks. What are the best and brightest headlights for a 2001 civic coupe. I want something that will light up the road much better than the ones that come stock. Any help would much appreciated.

The 8000k thing is just a temperature rating, the higher this number is, the bluer the light color. It does not mean the light is brighter. Stock HID that comes with Lexus and BMW and stuff are around 4300k i think.

with a h4 bulb there is no temp rateing they are just colored blue or whatever..
those bulbs in the link are great for visibility.. dont get some super blue bulbs they look cheap and you can totally tell that they are not HID...

Please check out this link, it will straighten out a lot of myths about aftermarket lighting (kinda focused towards HID lighting as the link suggests). http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2080

And yeah, all those spiffy looking lights you see at the local auto parts store will never give you "more light," they simply are for looks. The above link will give you a good idea..

Just to let you know... HIDs can range from 2300k - 14000k.

If you buy a set of bulbs that are under $100 bux then they're just aftermarket bulbs... not HIDs.

For brighter headlights, stick with stock halogens, but get the ones that are 2x brighter, that is what I have.

If you do get HID's, the lower the kelvin rating, the brighter they are and whiter they are. I had a 8000k kit and it was bright, but the color was whitish/purple. But if you start lowering that number, the whiter and brighter they get.

Sylvania Silverstars are my favorite bulbs so far

Who cares about looks when it comes to lights, they are the best I've had yet
