VTEC is always on what you are asking is when does it go from low to high cam. when under full throttle i believe it is around 2800-3000rpm, it kicks in earlier due to the pressure signal. when not under full throttle around 4300rpm. it is an rpm signal sent by the ecu. and don't be afraid to use search there is a giant thread about the d17 vtec controversy. im sure you can find any anwsers in there.
