speedometer problem

i took out my needle yesterday, and i can't get the speedometer to work right now when i put the needle back in? It kind of works, but like a clock, not a fluid motion, like its supposed to. And it doesn't go up and down quickly as it should. All my other gauges work, except the speedometer. Any Advice?

try this:

Try this:
1. Push and hold the trip/reset button.
2. Turn the lighting switch on.
3. Turn the ignition switch on.
4. Within 5 seconds, turn the lighting switch OFF, then ON and OFF again.
5. Within 5 seconds, release the trip/reset button, then push and release the button 4 times repeatedly.

This starts the Gauge cluster self diagnostics.
The beeper will sound, the lights will flash, the LCD will flash, and most importantly, the needles will sweep all the way back and forth. If they/one does NOT sweep properly, replace the cluster.

To exit diagnostics, turn off the ignition.

Hope this helps. If you don't get it the first time, try again. Timing is important here.

Good luck.

I had a similar problem when i put in gauges, it was almost like the speedometer would get stuck in certain places, is that whats happening to you? cause the speedometer might just not be centered. thats what happen with me, I just had to wiggle it back and forth to get it level.

Never take your needles off. I will never by gauge faces or mess with a cluter in any way, it's just a total waste of time and money, now you know. Your gonna have to go on EBAY and find one, there around $120.

Not while I was driving, the car was parked, but i just adjusted it till the needles starting moving fluidly and falling back down without sticking. They work perfect now, no problems. The gauges weren't worth the agrivation like the post above you said. If i'd have to do it all over, I wouldn't! But its in the past.

I've taken my needles off and put them on, I'd say about 5-10 times...and it works fine....my suggestion is this...fill up your tank and leave your car off for a bit...then put on your temperature needle (obviously at "0"), then turn on the car and put on your gas needle (at full) our cars (the ex) idle at about 500 or so, so put that one there and then rev the car til it hits the rev restrictor and see if its accurate to where u remember...and then for the speedometre get a friend (to follow beside you or lead or whatever and set the needle to an agreed speed...to do this obviously you cant have the clear plastic on....

and then you're set! dont have to buy a new cluster...and if your needles are sticking, maybe you pressed them into hard...I did that, so when I put them back on, I didnt shove them all the way it...and it works like a charm!

PEACE!

yes i have. ignition is the 2nd one (where it beeps and it's ready to be started). lighting, parking lights work fine. it takes a couple tries, but it's pretty cool to see. works with an RSX too.

Listen to DJ, he might be onto something, thats exactly what happened with me, i never took the needles off, but I thought I pulled them a lil bit with trying to get the gauge on (again, not worth the time & aggrivation ). So I kept pushing and pushing, finally realized they needed to be pulled out, once I did that, worked perfectly and haven't had a problem since. Good Luck
