DIY: Clear needles for gauges
I was sick of the orange needles in the dash so I was messing around and found a way to get rid of the color.
1. Put a cloth behind the needles to protect the gauges while you do this, or simply remove the needles.
2. Take some Goop-off or a similar product and rub it on the back of the needle.
Be careful not to get any on the gauges because it will change the color of the gauges and also make sure you don't break the needles.
3. After rubbing it off, the needles will become perfectly clear.
4. Remove the cloth or replace the needles back onto the gauges.
This is a quick and easy mod if you are trying to get rid of all the orange color from your interior. The needles will be nice and clear, and don't worry you can still see them fine while driving. I used mineral spirits when I took the color off, but my friend used goop-off and it seemed to take the orange off a little easier.

i've said it once and i'll say it again: DO NOT REMOVE THE NEEDLES! (IMO at least) many members have had to go to the dealer to get them recalibrated. someone correct me if i'm wrong about that.
i would like to see pix as well

I took my needles off with no problems...put them on and recalibrated them myself. Not hard at all if you know where the needles sit at idle after the car is warmed up. I was concerned, so I called my dealer and he said that they don't do that and that I would have to get a whole new cluster...so I laughed at him and calibrated them myself. And the needles come off easy, like old stereo *****....just give them a good pull straight out. Try to remember where they are though, that makes calibration easier.

Ok, I don't have pics on my 2k2 civic because I don't have the digital camera right now, but there are 4 pics of the integra in my members ride section linked here:

I was able to get the tip of my finger and a thin cloth back there that i had put the mineral spirits on, if it is too tight of a space, i guess you would have to remove the needles

So do they just light up with like white light?
Someone said somthing about painting them blue or something?
I have been wanting to get some different gauges, but then realized that it wouldnt look too great with those stupid orange needles
oh, and tell me more about how your supposed to do this without taking them off - i dont remember there being enuf space to fit my finger in

i can tell you gooF-off works wonders at removing anything from anything.
I know this cuz i accidentally tried to use it after i had cleared my headlights to clean them up a bit and it ate thru the plastic. So now i am getting projectors, but i have never heard of goop-off, maybe its a typo?
btw i got goof-off at walmart

I meant to say "Goof-off" not goop-off. It will appear white when it is lit up but i am not sure how it would look painted. The pics in members of rides are of my friends gsr not my civic obviously

You can get goof-off at any hardware store.. Also if you still have some left it works good when you're removing your Civic emblem from the back and have some glue still there.. A combo of WD-40 and Goof-off work excellent.. BTW thanks for the DIY!

I meant use WD-40 & Goof-Off on the emblem.. Prolly don't wanna use WD-40 on the needles.. Also try using a q-tip while wiping the needles, might help (read it on another thread). I'm going to do it as soon as someone knows what color it glows in the dark! Thanks!

if we removed the needles, will the needles be off the position when we put it back?
If it is spring loaded though, when you pull the needles off, the interior mechanism will rotate and you'll lose all position
