I try to keep it within reason. Power shifting will kill your synchros. Just ease up off the gas a little, put in the clutch almost all the way and slam it into gear while letting go of the clutch at the same time. Sound work nicely for you. Remember that 2nd tends to pop out on some civics. Hold second in until it locks in. That's about it. Short shift kit and aftermarket shift **** might help you out as well.

steps to shifting with an auto.

step one: recline seat as far back as possible.
step two: use left hand on bottom of steering wheel to steer
step three: hold remote to overpriced jenson deck in right hand
step four: ensure car is in park
step five: take key out of ignition
step six: allow someone who didn't buy their license to drive your AUTOMATIC TRANNY car.

oh wait...you're saying you race a 5-speed LX? i have a 5-speed LX and as much as i love her, she's on the slow side. and i'm inarguably a kick-*** stick driver...no, i don't shift at 2.5 or 3. so while we're on the subject, what's the simplest thing i can do to make her even just a little bit faster? i figured, it was my first new car, if i added some stuff to make her pretty, it would be cool, who needs speed right? HA. i'm now wishing i fought with my parents and got the EX.

I drive my 5 speed like I used to drive my Baja when I was racing on an amateur level. I learned how to shift as fast as possible and every trick on driving and shifting, which includes stopping and moving both forward and backward on an incline and decline, jumping gears, slowing down without use of brakes going downhill, timing a gear change without looking at the tach or speed, use of the emergency brake, etc... As a driver there's so much you can do to become a better driver as well as a faster driver other than modding out the car.

Although mods are good too...

keep your eyes on the street but, keep in mind, your good power starts above 4000rpm's.
That means you need to jump into 1st gear between 3000 and 4000 (correct me if I'm wrong). after 1st gear, do as Gray said and make sure you don't hit 7000rpm's (it's proven that @7000rpm's you will loose horse power). This is what I can add!!!!
Hope it helps!!!
