VTEC on an LX?
im just joking. gotta have a catchy title to get people to read right?
but seriously, i have a question.
whenever i accelerate a bit harder than normal, something weird happens. at 3200 rpms, theres like a feeling of something kicking in. i really dont know how to explain it. except that its kind of like explaining vtec kicking in (i guess.lol).
so basically its like this:
1) i come to a stop at a stop sign
2) i accelerate a bit harder than i normally do
3) at 3200rpms, i feel a "bump" or something "kicking in" (i dunno what word to use).
- engine sound changes (i dunno how to explain the sound. its sorta like its screaming or something
)
- and then my car starts to pull harder than it normally does.
the reason why i ask is because it never happened on my 03. does this happen to anyone elses LX?
as some of you know, my car has been acting weird. and im just worried, thats why im asking this question.

ya, its an auto. but it doesnt downshift. its like a smooth bump, and the rpms rise smoothly. it doesnt jump like when it downshifts.
i really dont know how to explain. like, when im on the freeway, and i wanna pass someone, i push the gas pedal down farther, and it downshifts. but this is different. im basically starting off normally (just a bit harder...and i mean just a bit). i dunno what to say, but this doesnt feel like its downshifting.

asahi - ya man, acceleration is a bitch. today when the light turned green at a stoplight, i actually had to try to keep up with traffic. its like my car wasnt even moving at all.lol
curiousfish - hmm..i've never noticed it in 2nd gear before (mine happens in first), but thanks for the info
4drcivic - yup, i know that the powerband changes.
what i meant was that it jumps to a whole different tone, instead of getting to that tone gradually. like, if there was a scale from 1-5 (1 being the sound when you first start accelerating), instead of going 1,2,3,4,5...it would be like 1,3,4,5 or something like that.

Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

Yes the sound of the car changes alot when you are driving through the RPM range. Its got like a smooth growl to 3000 then to 3500 its a little different sound...3500 to like 4000 growl again. 4000 is that different tone again, then 4500 on its just growling into whining like normal. but yes at spots the sound changes alot.
YOU NEED NEW DIVX CODEC TO WATCH!!

I have an '05 5 spd LX. Mine doesn't seem to do that at all, its nice and even throughout the RPM's. Although, sometimes, when Im next to an EX, just to save face, I will gas it to about 3/4 throttle then about 4200 rpms Ill floor it so it sounds like VTEC is kicking in. lol. I know, its lame, but it sounds cool. haha. (EX head swap coming soon. This should solve that)

it's just like everyone has been saying, its the powerband of the car. everyone that talks about their VTEC kicking in needs to drive my DX, it doesnt have a trace of VTEC and around 3-4K it starts pulling. Thats just the nature of a small SOHC 4 cylinder. The 4.3L in my old Blazer was the opposite. It was set up for torque so you were back in your seat from 0-4K RPMs and then it died.

it how all japenese tuned engines work all the torque is toward the middle to high RPM range... while american car all put the torque down in the low end of the RPM range... its a culture thing sure we all like going fast but how we get going fast is different
