DIY Shaving

I know many of you hear have shaved your cars' "Civic" and "D/H/L/EX" emblems, and I want to do it too. I think it looks sharp when only the Honda Logo is in the center of the trunk lid. Anyways, to make a long story short, can anyone decribe what tools or materials they used to do this? Also, what are the best ways to avoid scratching the body or paint? How well did your "shaving" turn out?

Yes, I know there is a section on how to do this in the DIY section of this site, but there are photos only there...i need text!

Thanks for all info, it's appreciated....

Just did mine today. Quite easy, just use some thin fishing line and wiggle it behind the civic and ex, dx or si emblems. Just make sure to pull to wards you and take your time. My fingers are still hurting due to the fishing line. Good luck.

I used a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive behind the emblems and then I just pulled them right off. Some of the adhesive was still there so I bought some Goo Gone for like $2 and a grocery store and that came right off too. I went ahead and waxed the area where the emblems were just to make sure. Hope that helps. It turned out great, no problems at all.

Yeah, man. It's one of the easiest things to do. Hell, I did it and I know Jack **** about cars. All you need is a hairdryer and something to get the remaining adhesive off the car. Also a little bit of elbow grease. Good LUck.

Just heat up the adhesive with a hair dryer, then start pulling them off with your fingers. Any residual adhesive can be removed with your fingers or with a rag......clean look, no scratches.

I poured hot water over the emblem I wanted off, then used floss to take it off.
Then I rubbed with my fingers over the remaining adhesive to get it off, and then I waxed over the area.
Be careful of your fingernails (if you use floss or fishing wire or whatever to take of the emblem) so that they don't leave indention marks in the paint when you are pulling the string behind the emblem.. I'm sure it probably wont be to big of a deal for you guys but at the time I had my nails done and they were long.. so when you look closely where my LX emblem was there are little lines were my nails left marks.
Oh well *shrug* that was my only mess up when I shaved the back of my car

So its that simple; heat it, pry it off, wax off the excess...

Thanks!

Re: DIY Shaving

Just did this one. Great idea with the dental floss, it worked perfectly! (if you're like me, you're a lot more likely to have floss laying around than fishing line =P)
I dumped hot water on the emblems, pulled the floss through and they popped right off.

The adhesive was a different story. It took me about an hour with goo gone to scratch all of the adhesive off. After I was sure the goo gone wasn't going to do any more, I washed the area and waxed it.

There's still a bit of a haze where the emblems were so I wouldn't call the project complete. You can't see it until you're right next to the car, but it's not show quality. =P If nothing else, I finally scratched the ugly dealership decal off the back bumper while I was doing this.

Re: DIY Shaving

if there is some "shadow" remaining, you should use meguiars scratchx to polish everything together and then wax once more.
