With much debate, i think i've decided to bore over my D17. I can get all the work and labor done cheap since i know the builder. Now my question is, would this in anyway set any codes that im unaware of ? this is prolly an obvious question but i suppose my auto tranny wont last as long either...

also, has anyone ever done this type of modification and if so what were the results. If i can im gonna try to bore it to a 1.9. or 2.0L

If you bore to big you'll weaken the sides and be forced to sleeve,

Obviously it'll be a custom setup. or would it just be eaiser to drop in a k20, but then brings up the prob of wiring the vtec and blah blah blah. which one would ya'll choose and give reasons as to why you would pick a certain way than the other.

^^Wiring the Vtec? When you swap the k20 your going to be swpaping ecu's also, theres no wiring up of new vtec lol. If you HAVE the option, go k20. Swap or boost most will tell you

well if i can, i want N/A dunno why just do. anywho, i think itd be cheaper to go with the strokin idea but itll make less power than the k20, but it also costs more so theres a conflict between my decision here. I dont want a badass racecar or nothing, id just like a lil extra power for my dialy driver without sacrificing reliablity!?

Also, i have an automatic transaxle, so how hard would it be to swap in a 6 speed outta an rsx type s. ive heard it just swaps right over to the d17 block, but it could be bad info.

Hmmm, reliability well thats k20 there, i mean it's STOCK you cant get much more reliable than that lol.. N/A trust me you'll want k20 lol

Well, i guess the bad part to that is that itll will obviously void my factory warranty.....so i dunno, any other ideas why or why i should stroke it or get a k20 ?

You will be much better off swapping

Swapping=~175whp for $4500 installed
boring=~135whp with I/H/E if you are lucky (i am sure that you would gain tq, but not enough to make it worth it)

I just don't thinking boring it out alot (especially up to 2.0) is a good idea, because that would thin the walls substantially... then you'd have to sleeve it... meh... honestly, k20 would be your best bet =)

The 6 speed from an RSX won't fit a D-17. The engine sits th other way around. Even if it bolts up, you'd have 6 reverse gears and one very slow forward.

I'd do a k20 swap. Best daily driver option, IMO.

Bad info, you can swap a 5spd from a D17

i'd say mesure the side walls and stuff and maybe you can modify a stroker kit from a b18 or something. i have a spare d17 block if ya want it. sell it to ya cheap but im sure shipping will be $$$.

Would make alot more sence to lower the weight of the crankshaft and use some high compression 75mm 11:5:1 pistons, light weight rods and a custom camshaft.

I'll be the first to tell you to keep the D-series... not because the K-series sucks, but just because I've always preferred the underdog Honda block. However, I wouldn't recommend stroking the motor. Your dealing with a block that was originally designed for 1.6 liters of displacement. First of all, you WILL have to resleave the block if you want to actually torture it the way Honda engines were designed to be. Next you will have to either A.) have a new crank designed or B.) have some custom counter-weighing done on the stock one (which I'm not even sure is possible). There's a lot more to boring an engine than just making the cylinders bigger. You have to take into account rotational inertia, compression, etc. There are ways to make it work, but it sure won't be reliable as a daily driver. To get it to work flawlessly takes immeasurable amounts of R&D which is why companies don't invest in stroker kits for "unpopular" engines. If you still have the factory warranty, then keep it, especially if this is your only daily driver. I'm sure there will be plenty of parts for the d17s, but those are still years down the line. After all, there was a time when you couldn't buy anything for the d16/d15 either. Just save up your money, take full advantage of the warranty, and keep on eye on what gets developed.

yeah, I was wondering the same myself...I think you'd be lucky to get the engine alone for that much.

Maybe he's considering that you're personally doing the swap yourself

true honda has the k20a for 5600 and the k20a2 for 4200 with everything you need to swap. but i doubt it has the motor mounts plus there will be labor costs unless you can do it yourself.
