AN Specification Information
The AN specification is designed as a type of fitting that seals without the use of a thread sealant, such as teflon tape or paste. This allows them to be disassembled and reassembled with relative ease. When properly assembled, the hose is practically leak proof.
AN is designated in a -size. The size is measured as an outer diameter of a hard line, such as an aluminum fuel line. The sizes are in 1/16 of an inch OD.
AN 2: 2/16" or 1/8"
AN 3: 3/16"
AN 4: 4/16" or 1/4"
AN 6: 6/16" or 3/8"
AN 8: 8/16" or 1/2"
AN 10: 10/16" or 5/8"
AN 12: 12/16" or 3/4"
The inner diameter of the most common braided stainless hose with a rubber inner liner is significantly smaller than the indicated AN size.
AN 4: 7/32"
AN 6: 11/32"
AN 8: 7/16"
AN 10: 9/16"
AN 12: 11/16"
Remember that this is the actual inner diameter of the hose.
Edit: Forgot to add that AN stands for Army/Navy.
