Strut bar ...modification...
So i got one of those ebay 'JDM' strut bars for like 3 dollars the other day and put it on. Well i have an AEM SRI. It just barely scrapped against it when i installed it. I didnt like that at all, and when i turn on the car and press the gas the intake would vibrate against the bar. So what i did was grind down that area that the intake would hit against to give it clearance. I grinded it about 1/4 inch. I havent drivin it around yet but thats not gonna comprimise the strength of that bar to the point that it hinders anything will it? I didnt think it woudl since its more of an accessory item and isnt much of a vital item. What do you guys think?

haha i bought a set of generic strut bars the other day. it was like for a front and rear strut bar for $15. i had the same damn problem. the bar was resting right up against my injen cai. so i used washers to space it out and now it no longer hits or vibrates on the intake and isn't too tall that it pushes up on the hood. i guess when people made these they had a civic with a stock airbox in.

ok so heres an update; after driving it around all day today i took it off, the intake will still hit the bar when you accelerate and turn on the engine, so i dont know whethe rto grind it down a lot more or what. its just an accessory piece right its not gonna comprimise the integrity of hte front suspension if i weaken it like that right.

nah they don't! i had both. the ebay intake is so big it rattles against the hood at idle and so of course the bar scratches it - but even the V2 intake i have now touched the ebay bar so i just got rid of it.

What I did was get some heat piping insulation stuff. It comes in a long pole looking thing, with a cut down one side, so it can slide over water pipes. I got the 1 or 1.5 inch I think. Whatever size looks like it will fit, should work out ok. But I cut about 4 or 5 inches off of it, and put it in the middle of my bar. I wrapped electrical tape around it and slightyly on the bar so it would stay, and only hit the foam stuff. It worked fine, so vibrating, except with that kind of intake and that kind of strut bar, the intake will not sit directly straight on the IM. I decided to keep my bar (8 bucks)and take my intake off (75 brand new AEM). There was a nice gain with the stock airbox, minus a little piece of it. Just modify your airbox if you want to keep the bar, and not intake. Youll get a nicer gain.

Gabe said it - keep the part that will get you the bigger performance increase, the strut tower brace.
I'm assuming its one of those bars that's threaded on the ends... have you tried turning the bar so its in a different position? If I remember correctly, several members on here have had success just changing the position of the bar so that it didn't hit their intake.
