After reading a few threads, I thought of something: in the front of the detector, you have a glass shield. Would you get more range if you took the shield off???? Just a thought.....

A radar detector is not an optical detecting device.

True, that it isn't a optical device and removing the cover would do no good, but don't obstruct the front of the detector or it won't work at all.
