Funny noise coming from trans

I have an 02 DX with a manual trans. When i press the clutch in the sounds goes away but when i realease it it makes like a whining sound. WHen i put it in gear and take off if makes this ticking noise that gets faster with speed. When i shift to 2nd it slows back down and kinda goes away in 3rd 4th and 5th gears. What could this possibly be? The dealership had it for 8 hours friday and didnt even look at it. Its got 29,000 miles on it.any help would be appreciated

It's a Little early but I would flush the Trans fluid and see if that helps...
With 30k u should still be under warranty so I'd fuss with the Honda people if
that doesn't help.

well jack up the front of the car, remove the passenger side wheel...
you should see a bolt on the side of the tranny by where the axel is, use a 3/8" ratchet to unbolt that... its a plug with a square drive deally... you will know what i mean..

you will need 2 quarts of honda mtf.. or something similar.. the manual says 10w30 works too.. but lacks the clensing agents found in the mtf

next locate the filler plug a 17mm box wrench should do the trick... it should be behind the tranny and farther up than teh drain plug

next get a tube and funnel, or tranny filler deals that screw directly into the bottle... and get a comfortable elevated position for the bottle... that way gravity can o its work... since its not 80w90 you dont have to sit there for an hour to let it go into teh hole...

they say that the fluid level should be level with the filler plug hole...

Its probably the input shaft bearing. Mine was doing the same thing, they replaced it under warranty.

That does sound like the input shaft bearing. It seems a couple of people have had this exact failure. And, no, this should not happen so early.

If that is the problem, and you are having trouble with one dealership, go to another dealership and tell them about the problem. They will still fix it under warranty.

Would the input shaft bearing be responsible for a groaning noise between shifts? I can replicate it very audibly if I say, accelerate in 1st, then disengage the clutch and let the engine fall back to idle. During the decline in revs, I get a noticeable noise I never really had before. I'm at 38K, it's been doing it for a few thousand miles now.

Possibly, the input shaft bearing is the first bearing on the transmission right after the clutch.

Of course... It started right around 36K. It's probably by design.
