DIY: Tightening E-Brake
I was getting my brakes done by my mechanic today and I asked if he can tighten my E-Brake cuz that ish was loose like a 2 dollar hoe. Well, he told me a way to do it myself which was so easy I started laughing.
The mechanic is Russian so they are used to doing ghetto stuff like this in Russia..... but ****, it worked! haha
ok
put your car in reverse and give it some gas so you start rolling backwards......let go off the gas so you just go into a roll.....now that the car is rolling backwards press that button on the e-brake and pull the ebrake up so the car comes to a stop.
thats it. this tightens you e-brake back to normal....... i did this today and its as tough as it was when i got the car. i'm not sure how long it'll last for but whatever haha
i dunno if any of you guys knew this but i just found this today and now that it worked so i thought iw ould share

Yeah, this would be the "self-adjustment mechanism." A simple ratchetching mechanism in the rear drum that doesn't work worth crap on my car. I had to remove my drums and adjust it with a screwdriver to tighten mine.
****. i gotta try this.
questions:
1. do we have to neutral the car once the car move before pulling the e-brake?
2. while pulling, is it neccesarry to push the button? can we just pull it?
3. how hard should we pull it? how fast? should we actually do it slowly and feel the stopping?
4. at what position should we stop pulling the e-brake?
5. should we repeat the process if we're not satisfied with the result?
lastly,
6. any risks?
BTW,
one should probably realize that there are two different mechanism of e-brake tightening system..
first, the rachet star system inside the drum.....this will likely tighen up the mechanism inside the drum....and adjust the position of the pad to the drum....
second, the e-brake line......which there's a DIY for it here.......now, this one apparently tighten up the cable which leads to the brake drum system...
one should also realize that if we tighen up the star rachet to much.....the pad will be to close to the drum....and while ur moving ur car...it'll IMPEND the movement...and also kill the pad much faster.......
comments?
thanx!

rolling backwards works but like zen master said, you could over tighten them and cause premature brake wear. I'd just tighten the cable... the easiest way to do it is to remove the console around the e-brake. Follow the cable and you'll see two adjustment bolts... just tighten them up a bit and you'll be good to go.

I tried adjusting mine by doing the rolling backwards technique and I can't seem to do it either.
I'm just gonna take my console out and tighten the cable.

what the................
this is actually the problem which i asked to the OP, does he KEEP PUSHING the button while pulling the brake up??
if u can hear the click, that means that u DID NOT push the button! maybe that's why it didn't work for me..................
I pushed the button and pull it out while pushing it............

hmm, this is weird. it worked for me. do you guys jerk it up fast or slowly?
because you have to do it sharply.... just jerk it up quickly and hold it up until the car stops

no. you press the button in and jerk it up really fast and hold it up there until the car comes to a stop. if you pulled it up slowly then thats why it didnt work. you gotta jerk it like you jerk your.... nevermind
oh man..
wait, so you keep pushing the button while jerking it out?
just now i did...........erh....without pushing the button..................doesn't work either..
the last one, with pushing and jerk em.....erh...yeah

ok are we still talking about the e-brake or jerking off because I'm confused? normally when i masterbate, I do it fast.
As for tightening the e-brake... I held the button in and I yanked on that mother fvcker hard... I actually did it about 20 times and still nothing.
It might not be working for some of us because the self adjusting thing is adjusted all the way out.
Just tighten the cable.
